Step - by - Step How to

Clutch Removal
ARGO Brake rotor removal

The Borg Warner designed T-20 transmission has been used in MAX, MAX II, MAX IV, ATTEX,
HUSTLER, SEARS, CAMEL, STARCRAFT, CAMEL and many more ATV'S for over 40 years.

The clutch on the shaft of the T-20 will often become rusted and stuck of the input shaft of the T-20. Removal of the clutch seems almost impossible at times. We at ROUTE6x6 and RICHARDSRELICS after seeing more and more of this problem have used this method of removal.

Do not try to beat the clutch off, the soft clutch hub will be damaged way before clutch comes off. If a press is used in an attempt to push clutch off, be aware that the thin clutch sleves will bend very easy. New clutchs are very expensive, so try to remove it with out damage to it or to the T-20.

The tool and system below, will also remove ARGO Clutchs and ARGO Brake rotors, using same idea.

This is another addition to our new how to series, we will ba adding more every week, so check back often. You may also e-mail suggestions for future how - to's to. richard@route6x6.com

Here is the problem, a 30 year old T-20 out of a MAX, machine was abused and has been sitting outside for 10 years. whole trans is rusty, clutch will not come off.

We have tried most everthing, PB Blaster, soaking for days, heat ( which will damage clutch very easy), crying and so on.

Note: Sometimes the clutch will just slide off, with no rust on the shaft. But, many times not.........

The tool can be made with ease

The tool we use is 11" steel a few thousands smaller than the 7/8" hold in the clutch, therefore it slides into the clutch, a threaded stud is installed in the length of steel, this is used to screw into the theads of the T-20 inside the clutch, make sure you screw the threads ALL THE WAY IN, use a wrench to tighten this tool down hard.

Note: Tool, comes with two replaceable studs:

3/8-16
3/8-24

This enables this tool to be used for:

1) T-20 transmission clutch removal
2) ARGO transmission clutch removal
3) ARGO transmission Brake Rotor removal
4) Most 4 cycle engine clutchs

We do offer this tool at RICHARDSRELICS
