I realize diferent tires work better in different environments. Question. Has anyone run 27 inch gators or vampires on his or her max IV? They look like they would fit, I am sure you would lose some power. |

John maybe they would fit but the O.E.M. 26'' run pretty close on my max 4 already of course some mfg's sizing differs.Add a little body sag and you may have issues. There are trade offs depends what you want to gain or wouldn't mind loosing.26'' great utility, water speed, tuff tire, when you get in a deep rut your nailed into it, your not going to skid steer out of it with that much rubber. Saw a couple 4's do good on a trail ride running 26'' with a 18hp. motor |

What are O.E.M tires? Right now I am using the 26 x 12 -12 good year terra tires. They go good, but hard riding. |

John. O.E,M.=original equipment mfg. The tires that you are running are the optional oem tire for a max iv. Stock oem tires are smaller, needed to run tracks. softer riding, less ground clearance, way slower in the water. Up to now I have not seen any other tire on any machine that is faster in the water. Try running your tires with Very little air to soften the ride. I like your tires so much that I run them on the back of my new Argo Avenger. Tires that are not designed to be used on skid steers don't steer very well and cause problems. |

John,Sorry I wasn't more specific, max 4 optional 26''tires on early models were dico, late models have in most cases gators.Early rims from factory with 26'' mounted had automtive type bead rims, later had atv type lock beads.Even later 26'' rims has the valve stem more inboard to avoid tear off. If you have lock beads you can run lower pressure for agressive riding,if automotive type you might have to run more psi to avoid popping bead off.In any case can't see where that extra 1'' would be a advantage with the 27''. |

Hi Dennis, When I bought my new 2003 Max IV the 26" tires were Goodyear Super Terra Grips. I bought 6 more of them from a friend who put Frontier tires on his Max IV. I put them on my Avenger and tripled my water speed. They are hard riding, but on K rims you can run them pretty flat. Are RI supplying Gators now? Are they as good in the water? |

Philip, saw some on the late models and R.I.Co. machines at trail rides.Couldn't honestly say anything about their performance.Have a ''99'' with the dico's.Seems the best water speed I've seen at the Copper ridge rodeo was with a max 4 with a 25hp. running 26'' dico's.I'm constantly expermenting with air pressure under different conditions.Running 10 to 15 in front tires seems to handle steep down hill descents with 5 psi in the rest seems to keep that down hill bounce down to a minimum. 3 1/2 for hunting ,utility and non aggressive trails. |

Dennis-Yes, Tim "Mudbug" with his hopped up MaxIV and 26" Dicos has won the water race at Copper for several years in a row. My nephew rolled my Max IV at copper a few years ago with me in the back seat. I rolled it a few weeks later at Ledges in Ohio. I am still the butt of lots of jokes.John Schwab said my skid plate was faded from too much sun exposure. You are the first person to tell me that they run 15 lbs. on big downhills. I went up from about 1 1/2 to about 5 lbs. on the big hills and that has worked well for the last few years, but more air would protect the tires better in frozen ruts made by 4 wheelers before it froze. Thanks |

Yeah, down hill is a concern had many folks behind tell me they were looking at the back of my front tires. then I wasn't to far behind a factory max 4 standing on its nose, the only thing that kept it from tea kettling was the winch,it was like time stood still for those folks,I think they heard his wife's screams in Olean. Nice rooster tails of Tim's machine |

Ahhhh- Those fond memories of Copper Ridge.I read this everyday but don't often post. Philip, you should consider coming down to our Ribits Riders Dinner and party Feb 2nd. It is in Elma NY, a suburb of Buffalo. It would be great to get together, you will know a lot of folks there. We are all glad that you are now in a much more stable machine now. The stories could go on forever about Max IV downhill scary moments. That incident at Olean where the MaxIV stood on its winch was Len, Bev and family, a very experienced and skilled rider. He just carried a bit too much speed. If only I got it on video......Merry Xmas to all!! |

John, Always nice to hear from you.Elma NY.- Hmm Sounds very inviting.I never met a Ribit Rider that I didn't like and some of them are truly special people. I will have to wait till my wife gets through the madness of Christmas before I try to negotiate. Philip W. Cox |

Great- Reservation deadline is not until Jan. 26 so you have lots of time to "negotiate". Weather premitting we do what has come to be known as the "Hangover Ride" the next day. |
