So mark you are planning to install a motor that could propell your craft to speed well over 100 mph. Keep in mind that 6x6's are made of plastic, have not shocks, big bouncy tire, and can turn on a dime. Sound like fun, tell me how it went after you get out of the hospital. You could probly replace the belt drive on a T-20 with the drive shaft and pinion set-up off the bike. It would be alot of custom fab, and you would need alot of room. |

Once again, I ask the question. How are you going to control the clutch, shifter, throttle and steering at the same time? Also with a direct drive, you increase the chance of stalling the engine at exactly the wrong time. |

don't direct drive use the clutch lever on the left stick. or loose the drive shaft and turn the motor backwards and drive a jackshaft off of the tranmition( the rotation will be backwards so use a 1:1 gear set-up with a chain. at the other end of the jackshaft use the stock torque convertor. that way you won't use the clutch, you can shift the tranny with a siliond or an air accuator like a drag bike. use a toggle on the left stick to shift up or down. In my experince anything is possible; given unlimited time and resorces. I would not recomend going to all of that work. since a hopped up brigg's running on methonal can propell a single speed go-cart to 90 mph Also with a auto-matic based transmition the more rpm you turn it the higher internal pressure it creates. if the internal parts cant take the 13000 rpm that engine is capeable of them something will have to give. If you think of it you won't be turning the output shaft at 1:1 intill you are in top gear so it will have all kinds of torgue but will probley will be really slow intill the upper gears. there is no gear reduction on the stock motors. If you want speed buy a 2 stroke and put a tuned exaust on it, ifyou want power buy a old diesle generaator at an auction and take the motor off of it (see running ones go for $50), if you want a little of both along with relibility but a Brigg's. |

you can shaft drive a small rear axle out of a light weight rear wheel drive car and cut the axles down and use the brakes to steer. The problems you have will be calculating all the gear ratios. Disc brakes will be better than drums, you may want to install an additional brake on the drive shaft so you can slow down the input to the chains evenly. I would not want to try and steer and slow down at the same time. Its hairy enough at 60 mph. Been there done that. |

I did the exact same thing as your describing. I put in a 993cc Suzuki engine out of a geo into my prarie bobcat 6X6, along with the automatic transmission. I used chains all the way from the output of the transmission to a reversing transmission.. then from that to the origional drive system. Funny thing about the speed. This was my first trial run after I got her all working!! http://www.4wheeler.ca/index.php?act=Attac...e=post&id=20497 and that crashing sound at the end is me crashing into a telephone pole. Ha.. I've got her back up and running and just bought a 12volt trolling motor for her. If you need more info about what I did goto: http://199.126.216.230:81/Frazer/vehicles/vehicles.htm and click on Prarie Bob Cat. There is quite a lot of work involved, but I enjoyed every second of it! Feel free to email me any questions you may have! |

http://www.4wheeler.ca/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=20497 Try that one.. This was my "test" 6X6 to see if it could be done. Now I know it can, and have experienced a lot of issues through building this thing, I'm going to start working on what I call "Argo II". A 8 wheel drive w/Independant Suspension, 8 wheel steering, that can still float and still fit on the trails. BeeMan |
