Let me introduce my self to the board.Im a man who makes a living with a 6x6.I do weed control in ponds and lakes.I spend alot of time in these machines. I can log as many as 100 hour a week in my 6x6.I have used 6x6s in my work for four years. I started out with 2 argos they worked ok for the first half of the season then started haveing problems first one thing and the next.After that I got smart and bought two Hydratraxx machines. I have had nothing but good luck with them.They preform better than any thing I have ever used.I really put these machines threw the worst treatment that you could imagine.We spend between 8 to 16 hours a day in these bad boys.They hold up under all these conditions with only one break down and that was my fault I busted a tire on a old piece of fence but other than that no problems. I had to get up early every day to oil chains charge the battery if I used the winch at all. when I was using argo.Lets not forget if I had to take my machine in the water I had to first drain the water out an then grease the axles. That took about anouther 45 minutes out of my already behind day.I think I almost saved two hours a day of prep work by switching to hydra traxx.I believe these 6x6s are the best on the market because Ive tried them all.If you have any ? contact me here. hydrO-traxx, not hydrA-traxx.
what problems did you have with your argos, just out of curiosity?
You do not have any wheel bearings to grease on your hydro-traxx?
would be nice if someone would come to an organized ride so this machine could show what it could do. what do ya say, Doc, I would really like to see one of these. never got to see up close the one at humprey a few years back, they didn't hang around long enough. |

I,m glad to finally read a postive post, about the long term reliability of a Hydro-Traxx. I have looked at their webpage recently,,and they look like very well built machines and designed well. But,,these Amphibs are mainly to be used in rather open terrain,,,as you use yours for.
Its was posted on this 6x6 forum board,,months ago, that some one once brought a Hydro-Traxx to the Humphrey New York event. This is the big amphib event,,that is put on every year,, for all kinds of amphibs.
People here have posted here,,that the Hydro-Traxx that came to the Humphrey event one time,, got stuck a lot easier and a lot more often,than the other amphibs that are "supposedly" inferior to it.
The Hydro-Traxx is a well build and robust machine ,no doublt about it! But,,this machine is very limited for recreational use.
Because of its greater weight,,compared to other amphibs,,,it gets stuck in mud a lot easier. PSI on the ground, is the key thing,,for driving an amphib in soupy,soft,slimy mud.
I live where the trees are very close together, and the trails are only slightly wider than a 4-wheeler to ride through. This why I chose the Max IV 25 hp,,,for its ligher PSI on the ground,,and
"True-Six-Drive",,narrower body.
For what you are using your Hydro-Traxx for, this is the Amphib to have for sure! But,,for the kind recreational trail riding I like to do,,,the Max IV is much more advantagous for me.

Sorry about my spelling I really never learned my abd,s. I had alot of trouble with chains the first thing that happen was the slack adjuster broke that give the chain enough slack to come off and break.I take these in the water alot so if you dont keep the bearings greased.Better know how to swimm.As far as having wheel bearings to grease on a hydro none. I would love to come to one of these rides to show off this machine but it will have to be after oct. because I have know time to get away until then. One more thing I have to use the winch on my argo alot to remove trees or debree from spillways or away from docks and if I used itmore than a few minutes I was using the pull rope to get it started so I had to charge the battery every night for the next day. That was a real pain.Well thats all I can think of right now hope you have better luck than I did with your argoo.Gotta go for now. DOC |

What model Hydro-Traxx do you now own? And ,are both of the models you own,,the same year and model?
A man I met here,,has a turbo charged ( 45hp?) with suspended bucket seats. He also has the 28 inch High Lifter "Out-Law" tires on it.
These are some "very aggressive" mud tires. They would not work very well for your line of work I think. He lives about 280 miles from me. I hope to visit him this summer and see his "bad to the bone" Hydro-Traxx. |

Hello again. Ill try to answer your questions about the hydo.The ones I have are the base model but designed just for my needs as far as my work goes. They have different tires and pumps so I can spray the chemicals that I use to clean up lakes.Ihave seen the machine your talking about and your not going to believe it when you get a chance to take it for a spin.It is the most powerful 6x6 I have ever seen it will be the next one I invest in.I dont know where or how the rummor of the hydro getting stuck more than other models came from but its not true.I got stuck more in my argo than I ever have in my hydro.The key is power the argo would stall the motor or smoke the belt.The Hydro has all the power that it needs but a real plus is its true zero turning radius.The key is being able to operate it.That takes some practice because these machines are more advance than any thing else out there.They have more of everything.But the real plus is they hold together.As far as narrow trails if there is something in your way just run over it.That is really where all the rest of the 6x6 owners will stop and take notice.Well gotta go for now. Doc,
Do you run tracks? Plastic or Rubber? I am hoping to get tracks at some point in the future and want to know if you have any experience. What type of high or low pressure pump system do you have? I have thought about making some money on the side treating lakes and vegetation? What kind of costs are involved. |

Hello Jake I really have had no use for the tracks on my machines theyre not good for use in water or I would own a pair.As far as pumps and such it depends on what kind of work you have to do but if you want to get in to treating lakes you must first get licensed in aquatic weed control.Then it takes about 100000000 dollars worth of insurance.then buy your equip.Then buy chemicals.Then find enough custumers to keep you busy so you can pay for all this stuff its not something you want to do parttime.Well I better go for now supper getting cold. I am glad to see this discussion thread regarding the Hydro Traxx. I believe the machine has had unfair remarks made about it in the past on other forums.

Im glad to see that somebody out there agrees with what I have been saying about these truly advanced 6x6s. Theres know dout that these are the best 6x6 on the market. Ibelieve if the people that have said things about hydrotraxx had to use one of there machines like I do they would pray to the 6x6 gods for a hydo like mine.If I had to face a summer of the kind I had with my argo I would just quit and stick to lake construction.Well I better go that red head is on me like a Mississippi leg hound after a soapbox preacher! Has anyone compared the Hydrotraxx to the Triton Predator? Are thier respective hydraulic systems the same?
