Argo 8x8 is the better choice for hunting if you need storage space and for hauling out game animals of any size. First rule of hauling game in or on any vehicle is keep it away from heat sources It will ruin the meat.
If you can figure out a way to make a trailer that floats or buy the Argo floater trailer, then buy the Max IV to tow it. If you go without a trailer, then get the Argo Conquest 20hp. It boils down to how much storage and people space you really need.
Both the Max IV and the Argo 8x8 are good machines. Both have their faults and both have their strong points.
You did not say if you need amphibious capability for use in swamps, open water or both.
Get the biggest engine possible for the power. PSI will be important in muck, bogs, open water swamp, dry swamp, tundra. Lightest PSI is the way to go but don't be fooled. You put too much weight in a light PSI machine and away goes your advantage.
Think out your needs first and make the best choice depending upon your needs. Argos get stuck, so do Max's.
We go in the deep into the woods 15+ miles. We want to get in and we want to get out. Both vehices get stuck all too often not because they are 3wd vs 6wd but because hauling too much weight will get the most formidable vehicle stuck. |

Speaking of too much weight, I had to haul and overweight customer up a steep hill day before yesterday. Whether it's a deer or a fat guy, its the same problem...bigger engines are better. |

What size super swamper are you running? What are the wheel extenders you had to remove? My conquest is stock so I'm guessing I won't have to remove anything. I saw and briefly drove a conquest with swampers at Humphrey. They seem to be a good upgrade.

From time to time I see opinions about different 6x6 etc. atv's.I have owned tracksters,argo's and make my living running up and down the Trans Alaskan Pipeline ,winter and summer in argo's. Recently I bought a Hydro-Traxx. I will own nothing less from now on. I strongly suggest anyone who is interested in an atv, unless you really like maintenance,take a hard look at the Hydro-Traxx BEFORE you buy. |

Hello Bubba. It's good to see a post on the HT. I could not agree with you more. I would much rather be riding in it than working on it! What kind of work do you do in an AATV? What set up did you get? I recently bought a slightly used 99 HT baseline (635) I think. It does all I need it to but I just use it for recreation. Just FYI, the guys at Hydro-Traxx have been wonderful with there help. Especially considering I have not spent any money there yet. I hope to get up to their plant some day. Ron, I work for a communications company who maintains the fiber-optic controls along the pipeline. We use the argos to get into the 66 remote gate valve huts along the pipe.As I said before, I enjoy playing around in the argos, but the Hydro-Traxx is what I want for the swamps up here. We have swamps bigger than a lot of your States down there.
I bought the 30 hp generac with the 18 ci wheel motors. They were fast enough but I needed more torque for the steep grades with a moose in it.I found that early on and the Hydro Traxx Factory worked with me to up-grade to the high torque wheel motors.I could not be more pleased with their co-operation, and with the performance of the HT. Up here an equipment failure can mean freezing to death in a matter of minutes.Walking out is not possible too much of the time either.
You can freeze your hands trying to do the simplest things.The Hydro has very few moving parts and the pump-motors are almost bullet proof.
The only problem I have is having to put salve on my gums.I grin so much it dries out my teeth.
