I am new to this site and AATV's and this is my first post. Just got a new Max II 600T with the 18 hp motor, winch, 22" Goodyear Rawhide III tires, rear cargo rack and rollbar. Test drove a 500T with the 16 hp motor yesterday for the first time. Bought the 18 hp right then and there. Do you have any hints for spare parts I should carry with me like chain links or anything? Seems like this machine could take me a long way from the truck and trailer. Also any other things to watch for or special maintenance problems would be a great help. Thanks alot! |

i keep a spair axel and flanges +bearings with me as well as master and half links, also the tools needed to chainge an axel just in case you bend one so bad you have too chaing it there in the woods, a spair belt comes in handy too, it will be a while before you need too chainge a bearing just because of failure but axels do get bent from time to time, i sugest you get the spaner wrench so you dont have trouble with the locking calers on the bearings. spair plugs and fuzes if so equiped,( i chainged my older aatv over to circit breakers jus because i never seam to have the damm fuzes i need.) only the bridge rectifyer has fuzes now, i have a high volume bicycle pump on board too, it's just as fast as a 12 volt compresser and less likly to fail, it was cheep money too, aprox $9.00 at wallmart, while there look for a toe strap. (for quades of coarse) |

David is used to the old 6x6s that can barely get you home from the mailbox. I know where he is coming from since I have owned two old 6x6s. I bought my Max new in '99 and it is a lot different. The two biggest things a Max needs is grease in the bearings and lube on the chains. If you take care of those two things you are good to go for many years. The Max has sealed bearings so don't put more than about 2-3 pumps of grease in them or it will blow out the seal. Lube every 10 hours is a good idea if you run it in mud and water a lot. The chains should stay lubed for a long time unless you get water inside your machine. Chain Wax is the best lube to use but it is about $6 per can. Whatever lube you use, make sure it is safe for o-ring chains. White lithium grease is Not a very good chain lube. I don't carry any tools with me. Even after more than 2-1/2 years of rammin it and jammin it, my Max hasn't ever broke down. If you want to carry a few tools, all you need is a screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, 1/2" wrench, and a 9/16" wrench. You can take the whole machine apart with those tools! Have fun and ride it like you stole it. MaxRules |

nothing more fun than an axle change in the bush david. I also carry a tool set and a spare belt and extra links. If i bend an axle badly I will just yank it and 5 wheel it home. my second year at humprey i came back on 2 good tires and four flats. I would like to see a quad do that without screwing something up on it. wont happen. |

YAH WELL BRANDENS STILL LERNING, HE FORGOT THAT HE HAS HAD BREAK DOWNS, HE DIDENT LIKE IT MUCH WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT BEARINGS LEAKING AND THE SO CALED SEALS ON THEM BEING ONLY FOR DUST ECT.. HIS SUDENLY STARTED LEAKING JUST LIKE MINE, HIS MAX BURNT UP BEARINGS JUST LIKE MINE DOSE, I GUESS MAYBE HE'S NOT WORRIED CAUSE HE DOSENT GET FAR FROM THE MAIL BOX, I GUESS I JUST RIDE MORE THAN HE DOSE, OR HARDER PREHAPS, AXELS DO GET BENT, BEARING DO BLOW OUT ON THE TRAIL,TIRES GO FLAT,WIRES SHORT,FULE FILTERS CLOG UP,CARBS FALL APART,THROTLES STICK AND OR FREEZ, CHAIN TENTIONERS FAIL,BELTS BLOW UP,YAH EVEN MOTOR MOUNTS BRAKE! DOSENT STOP ME FROM TAKING MINE OUT ON A 26 MILE TRAIL RIDE LIKE AT HUMPHREY, I HAVE DONE IT WITH ONLY 5 WHEELS UNDER POWER, IT STANDS TO REASON THAT HIS WILL BE A TOYLET SOON JUST LIKE MINE, AS SOON AS IT HAS AS MUCH EXPIRIANCE THAT IS, THE MAX I HAVE IS THE WORST 6X6 I HAVE EVER HAD, (CHEEPEST) DAMM GOOD THING THERE STARTING TO BUILD THEM BETER, NOW THERE ABOUT AS GOOD AS AN ATTEX WAS IN 1973 EVEN THOUGH THEY NOW HAVE DISC BRAKES AND INER BEARINGS THEY DON'T HAVE MUCH CONTROLE ON THRUST FORCES AT EACH AXEL, THATS ONE REASON THE BEARINGS DONT LAST,THE OTHER IS DUST SEALS ARE NOT WATER SEALS, THERE NOT FOR MARINE USE! THERE JUST STUPID BEARINGS THATS ALL,NO MAGIC IN THEM, THEY NEED AN OUTER SEAL TO KEEP OUT THE WATER, OTHER COMPANYS HAD THEM 30 YEARS AGO, YOU KNOW I WONT BUY A NEW ONE TILL THEY ARE QUALITY MACHINES,IM STILL WAITING. |

There is not one person on this board who isn't still learning. The one thing you need to learn is I'm right and you're wrong. When in the last two and one half years has any part of my Max broke? I have wore out the chains and bearings but they still brought me home. You have a good list of things that could break which proves you can't be prepared for everything. Things break unexpectedly but most can be prevented with some maintenance. The bearings are the weakest link in the Max. They can't handle mud and water. The bearings have dust seals, not mud seals. RI will soon have outer bearing seals similar to Argo's seals. Probably early 2002. Anyone who has rode with me knows I like to ride hard. There is nothing I enjoy more than to take my Max through the toughest terrain I can find. I have the money to buy these new machines and I can buy the new parts when they need it. If it breaks I'll fix it. MaxRules |

david. i agree that sealed bearings would be a huge improvement on the max. my friend just bought a used one and bearings will be in the works soon. they really dont appear to have any water protection as you said. my bigfoot has only got water in it from over the hood nose diving into the water. keep grease in the flanges plus the rubber seals inside the flanges keep the water out, after 350 hours of heavy use. the frames could also be beefed up to. the extra weight would be worth it. all that plus a 25 in tire option on the II would be pretty awsome. had a chance to buy an attex a year ago in great shape accept no motor, for 300 bucks from the sound of what you say I am wishing i would have bought it. that would have made 6 machines in my 2 machine barn. I got em standing on end in their. |
