I would like to hear from owners of newer Argo's. Are you happy with the machine? What about the quality? What about the handle bar steering? And I really want to hear from anyone that can compare the old trans from the supposedly inproved newer version. bill |

Bill I would too, my ARGO is a onder Conquest. I have heard some guys like the new steering but I have also heard some do not. I now see even Argo is supplying new ones with the old steering on special order Jeff Bar |

well i did not know you could special order the old style levers. that should tell us something. if you were a new argo owner without previous time using the sticks i could understand liking the new style. I drove an avenger for a short time and did not care for the steering, guess it is all the years pulling on sticks. Jeff have you spent any time in a 6 wheeler? Bill |

One thing to watch out for is how hard you work the machine. I have a 2005 Avenger, and have ripped off four wheels now trying to haul loads which are heavy, but still well below the limit the machine is rated for. The welds on the wheel flanges are weak. So if you have some real work, be sure to check this out. I am trying to figure out how to get this properly fixed, and open to ideas (before I give up!). |

Jesse, a machined collar with a recess in it (for clearance of the factory weld) welded to the axle and flange over top of the factory weld is a great and almost 100% fix for the problem you have encountered. bill |

Jeff specifically i am looking for feedback from someone that can comment on a 6x6 vs an 8x8 climbing a steep creek bank. that is about the only time i get a little scared in a 6x6. semms to me an 8x8 would be a lot more stable. bill |

Bill I in my opinion the 8x8 Argo is better at climbing than a 6x6 Argo, but not a good as a rear engine machine, due to weight placement, but they all climb well Jeff Bar |

Show me a rear engined 6x6 that won't flip backwards following my 8 wheeler on the steep stuff. I did have a maxII follow me up a long steep one at Haspin one time, four of his front wheels were in the air! The weight of the engine in an 8 is perfect for climbing, but more important is the long wheelbase. |

Roger I did not say rear engined machines would not flip over, I just think they climb better than my Argo8x8 Conquest I think the Conquest is too hard to control compaired to say my old Hustler 950, to me that ws almost the perfect machine. Using your opinion if the front engine is better climbing then the rear engine must be better down hills. as I do not think you can have it best both ways What do you think? Why is a front engine better? Plus I like having room for my legs as I am 6' 3" tall. But I love all the machines Jeff Bar |

Jeff, thanks for the pics. The ones I was breaking did not have this kind of weld, but something that was more of just a single bead. the new axle I got from the dealer looks like yours, so hopefully that works. I will relace the others as well with this (such fun!) I was definitely running the tracks too tight as well according to the new-improved instructions I got from ODG which they released last summer but didn't tell anyone that already had purchased tracks it seems. |

Hey Jesse, can you send me a copy of the 'new and improved' instructions for track installation? I assume that it's an emailable document. Thanks, Tim |

Jesse You are welcome, Sorry I do not have instructions, but installation is easy, flatten tires and wrap tracks around, install pin and inflate tires untill tires do not spin inside the tracks Jeff Bar |

Tim, I sent you the new instructions. Now I will have to decide whether to follow Jeff's instructions (which look good to me) or the offical instructions (which will take time and try my patience). This will be a hard decision.... |

Hey Jesse, I didn't get the instructions that you sent so you know. I went by the old instructions Argo had (maybe the same ones) which consisted of measuring all the tires and locating them in certain positions etc. ( This was in another thread a while back) What was strange was that a couple of the spares I was given with the machine were significantly larger than the majority of the tires, which only differed by 1/4 inch or so. Had I used those I am sure there would be some adverse effect using the tracks. I decided to follow the document when I installed tracks this year because the first year I put them on the machine constantly pulled to the left. It is much better after I followed the instructions although it still seems to want to go to the left a bit. Incidently because I followed the instructions I found a bearing collar broken allowing the front left shaft to move in and out almost 2 inches. This was likely the cause of the pulling however putting the tires on per the document, changing the track sides likely all contributed. the process of taking the tires off and measure them was the reason I found the bearing issue so it's always a good time to look over other things as well, especially in my case purchasing a used machine. What I have found with these machines is that you can have bearings gone and you may not notice it for a while and subsequently do additional damage to other parts. Just my rookie opinion after a couple of years under my belt! |

Tim Tires all do seem to be a bit different, I have seen no problems with this at all. Pulling always seems to be due to drag in the system, chains bearings or something Seems to always be something not 100% with machines, but it always seems to just work out. Its nothing you are doing just the nature Phillip Osborn LA |

I agree it is a non issue concerning tire height, when talking about useing them with tracks, The Argo tires started as 20" then 21" now they are only available as 22" all work with tracks fine. Dave |

Tim, I resent the instructions for installing tracks. If they are not getting through, you can get them from Terry Moss Technical Education Director Argo ATV. ph.519-662-2840 ext.373 fax.519-662-2421 tmoss@argoatv.com |
