Just out of curiousity here, why has RI that produces the MAX II & IV not engineered and produced an 8X8? Being new to all of this I am just asking. Anyone ever hear anything as to the "why not"? |

Ed. RI does not seem to do anything major just small improvements over time. Seems to work for them as they have been in business for almost 40 years Dave Evans |

I can only speculate they are in the 6x6 business and have a unique four seater in the Max IV and they have the Buffalo truck for hauling loads. I think Argo has the 8x8 covered and to make one would require new body molds as well as other changes. Maybe it is also cost prohibitive for Recreatives to come up a with a new machine. |

I'll buy that. Cost might have a lot to do with it, I mean that would involve a completely new production line, which ain't cheap. Not to mention engineering, R&D, & product roll out costs, & so on... The only other 8X8 is the Predator which is not much competition market-wise. Hydro-Traxx stuck with a 6X6 platform, which means that the only possible real competition in the extended foreseeable future for ODG is this Chinese 8X8 Xibei Tiger running a 3 cylinder engine & a heavier curb wieght. And I do not see anyone screaming to import that unit yet, but you can bet that when that happens that the Chinese will enter the market aggressively by trying to push prices down and play to their only strength, which is low production costs. ODG is sort of protected in Canada, and they will probably add a nice tariff to offset and keep ODG competitive. But our own goombas are not likely to do the same for RI, and that would be a shame. |

I have not seen the Xibei being sold or imporeted by anyone in the USA. I would really like to check one out. Yes as with all the other Chinese imports the dealers cut the margin so low and consumers will consider price as their single most consideration. |

The China doll import could be big trouble for ARGO and MAX if the quality is decent and price low. People will say they will not buy China junk but Walmart has proved people will buy what ever is lower priced. This outlook will be the downfall of our wonderful country, when the majority of people have low wage jobs Robert |

Yep, and there will be even more low wage earners, the ex-employees of those 2 companies. I can not imagine that the Canadians would allow the Chinese to see their units, especially being that the pictures that I saw of this thing at the south pole looked EXACTLY like a red Argo Avenger, almost a carbon copy stamp of it. I have also read where the Chinese are getting pretty nervous because foriegners are buying all thier companies, or the companies still held by Chinese are losing market shares like mad. The company XiBei Hu used to have 80% of the business in bearings and such inside China, but now that is dropping like a rock and they are nervous. So, see these multinational conglomerates don't give 2 hoots about people making $2.10 per day either. And our elected nitwits? They'll probably propose a Free Trade Agreement with them too! Amazing! |

I wouldn't worry too much about foreign AATV's. Just like their cars and motorcycles, generators etc.,they are nice when they are new but not cost effective when they get old and need parts. We enjoy our North American machines for many years because parts are available. Our group is small and I don't see us falling prey to a inexpensive machine with no longevity. Well I'm at least hoping. |

i don think that aatv's will every be a seller if the chinese take over the market, as people want reliability and availability os spares. this is something that the chinese have never done and probly wont. i think it will be a good buisness oportunity though. |

The reality is that the market for AAtv's is limited, its a niche market. Of the 6 or 8 companies now in business you can bet 2 or 3 won't be around in 3 years. It's not a coincidence that Recreatives has been around for years yet moves slowly and makes small refinments to existing machines. Any sucessfull business has to consider return on investment and the "return" just would not be there if a huge amount of $ were spent on R&D. Bill |

It is a shame Mmax does not build a 8x8, it would be nice if the Buffalo was available as a 8x8. I might even sell this over rated crap I have and buy one |

I too think a MAX 8x8 woudl do pretty well, in the Buffalo style, with a large low pickup box, the present one is too high |
