Hi, Im interested in using an argo avenger or centaur here in Sweden for forestry work. Called up the local dealer for a quote and they said the avenger costs US$34,000 and the centaur US$60,000. Anyone know what they cost in the US or Canada? I get the impression they are a lot more expensive over here. |

Those prices are doubled from here in the US. Approximate price for the Avenger EFI is $17,000 and the Centaur is $30,000. It's interesting to me that a brand new Ford or Chevy truck with four wheel drive can be bought for less than either of those ATVs. |

Howard: An overseas 20" container can be shipped to Sweden pretty reasonable. Brandon, Ron, Fred or most any of the ARGO dealers here will be willing to sell you one (at US prices) and ship it to you. Just contact them. These dealers can be found here on this board or on the ROUTE6x6 PHOTO CLASSIFIED ADS Richard Clark ROUTE6x6 RICHARDS RELICS |

Brandon, $17,000.00 huh? Can you give me a rough estimate on a 2008 Avenger 750 EFI with a brush guard, winch, and ROPS w/ lights installed? |

Edward- I am the same guy that told you to get a factory winch on an Avenger but I draw the line at the ROPS. I can,t wait for brandon,s quote on that sucker. I am having a custom roll bar made for mine. Argo ,s ROPS is certified and very heavy, no question of quality but.... |

The rops is pretty expensive huh? I had no idea, but, if it keeps me from getting squished between the ground and 1,000lbs then I'll spring for it. Just my way of thinking, I have been in a truck, and a jeep that rolled (riding with idiots, not driving myself), and place alot of value on that piece of gear. I'm not getting any younger, and things do not heal as quickly as they once did. LOL! The ROPS is the 1st priority. |

This might be a bit of a misunderstanding. I do not want the entire ROPS, just that roll bar behind the front seat with lights on it. Make sense? No cage, just a roll bar, which I thought at least was the ROPS. Apparently not. |

The roll bar is used on the 6x6 models only. The 8x8 vehicles use the full roll cage. It is expensive and will keep you safe, but it is so heavy that I believe they have over done it. All that weight reduces the amount of people or cargo the Avenger can carry. It also makes it top heavy while floating. These AATVs really do need roll over protection but Argo has made their systems so heavy and expensive that few people buy them. Max's roll over protection seems very minimal but works well and every Max I stock is sold with one since they are so affordable. Better something than nothing. The latest price I have for the Argo 8x8 ROPS is $1800 and it's gone up slightly since then. The Max IV's roll cage is $690. Edward you are welcome to call me for some prices or call my distributor Gene Lintz at 319-658-2315. I no longer directly sell Argo vehicles for reasons to lengthy to list here. |

I agree with Brandon on the Max roll bars and cage on the Max IV. These machines can use the protection but they aren't doing multiple flips. They will sometimes go over backwards or in the Argo 6x6 forward, or they fall or roll over on their side. The bars are also great for additional leverage. I've never rolled a Max but I have used the bar as a way to rock and push the Max when it was high centered. I have rolled Argo machines and did not have a roll bar. It hurt from the impact, then the hot oil pouring on me didn't feel too good either. Luckily it was in soft muddy dirt so I could squirm and dig my way out. After a couple of rolls I wised up and now I always have a roll bar. |

Dear Mr. Mobley, I absolutely agree on the benefits of a roll bar. It is quite well known that I have been involved in roll overs at group rides in at least two countries! What Brandon says is exactly what I think, I feel that a person can make or have made ,a roll bar or cage that will do the job nicely for a pretty low price. I made the one on my Max iv and it sure did the job. |

Thanks for the replies Richard and Brandon. Yes it is interesting to think of the type of car you could buy for the same money! It looks like buying in the US/Canada and shipping over could be a good option for me. I think the avenger could be an ideal machine for use in the forest over here when working alongside manual treefelling in sensitive areas. The winters are becoming so warm that the ground is no longer frozen enough to carry the big havesters and forwarders through the forest. They end up damaging the forest a lot. What is the towing capacity like for an avenger compared to a top of the range 4x4 ATV? I imagine it must be better, especially with tracks on, or is the gearing ratio not suited for towing heavy loads? Im thinking of towing timber out of the forest. |

Phillip Argo has been on a major program of droping dealers and will be deleting all their distributors, already droped three of them including the Orrs, sad as they had done so much promotion of the Argo brand. I really hated to see the Orrs go, they were good people. Maybe Brandon will tell us more. Or I can call Orr's and see what they say Bryan |

This is unfortunate. The Orrs have been promoting Argo for years and years. I am very interested in what is going on. |

Someone in a suit thinks they have a better way to market a vehicle. Hope it's worth all the misery it's caused. |

Regarding Becky and Greg Orr Sr.. Every owner of an AATV who enjoys having someone to ride with owes a thank you to the Orrs for the great things they did to promote our sport and Argos. I do thank them and I look foreward to their future endeavors. |

I agree they promoted rides and events well. I spoke with Becky on the phone many times about parts and how to make some repairs. She was always willing to give free advice and plenty of assistance. I don't get what is happening but would really like to know more. |

The picture of the Avengers above have the 6x6's roll bar installed. According to the Argo brochure, the roll bar is only for the 6x6 vehicles. I'm sure it could be put on the 8x8 but I doubt a dealer would do this for legal reasons. Right now I believe the bar is designed only for the 6x6, ODG would have to say otherwise. I haven't spoken much on the Argo dealer issue for a number of reasons. It's mostly just plain unfortunate and aggrevating when you know what has happened to a once great company. People like my distributor, Gene and Betty Lintz, and the distributor in Indiana, Greg and Becky Orr, have been selling Argos for 30+ years. I have personally never delt with better people in ANY business. These were just two of the distributors that were basically shut down and treated like garbage by Argo. I'm glad the Orrs left Argo for doing that as I'm sure it severily hurt ODG's sales. Gene Lintz has stayed in the Argo business as a dealer just because he loves the product so much. I hope that one day ODG will wake up and beg these people to come back on board. I still sell things for Gene every now and then. I was given a chance to sign on with Argo directly as a dealer for them. I would have to buy "X" number of vehicles to keep on hand and pay high shipping rates to get them to my shop. Before this policy change, I could simply drive to Gene's warehouse to pick up any vehicles or accessories that I needed. He would regularly order a dozen or more Argos at once, making shipping rates very low. I could get any accessory or part from gene within two days by regular UPS ground. If I were a direct dealer from ODG, these parts would need to be shipped direct to me from Canada, taking much more money and time. The distributor advantages are just endless. An independent dealer simply can't stock enough vehicles or parts in this very low volume market. Being an Argo dealer was very fun and enjoyable and I hate that the structure has been torn down. Argo is a great product but I simply couldn't force myself to sell for a company that thought nothing of me. Near the end of my dealership last year, I did two brake cable warranty upgrades for two of my customers. That was the free upgrade that ODG gave after they screwed up the brake lever cable on the handle bar steering models. I had to buy these cables outright and install them and apply for the money back from ODG in their online system. I did that just as they were converting from distributor to dealer direct. ODG owes me about $60 for those parts and they refuse to pay me. They simply say I was not a dealer at that time and I was since I still logged on to their online system to apply for the credit. They have gone from a company that existed through people that loved the product to a company that is run by people who want to screw you out of a dollar. |

Well then they ought to understand that if they show the vehicle configured in this manner on their site, that it is implying that this is how it comes, and it is ok. I'm not a lawyer, but I could see the legal implications of presenting a product a certain way, and the possible liabilities stemming from it. And this is not the only instance on thier site that they show the vehicle configured as such. Maybe the same folks making decisions as to killing the ditributors is making the website too, and this is just another mishandling. Just my take of it. I'll still buy the Avenger, but I will buy the 6X6 roll bar and have it installed. OR, I'll get the spec of it and have it constructed and installed. I don't like the big ROPS, it is an over kill. Thanks for letting me know & giving me a heads up though. |
