Its been awhile since I was involved with the discussion group, and I remember several of you have disabilities and yet out there riding anyway? Now that I have a bum knee and am concerned about breaking down in the middle of nowhere, I'd like to hear what kinds of precautions you all take?

John,if you ride alone for exploration or hunting just don't take the machine if it is not ready or gave you aproblem that you didn't fix right with out a proof ride.Don't take chances with climbs or heavy mud.Hunting, well bring extra food, matches, cell with a place to charge it in your machine,a tarp about 8x10 will work,a old sno mobile suit and extra socks.I leave my wife directions to get to where I am.

Boy I can sympathize with you guys.I was broken up badly following a motorcycle wreck this past January. My left knee had to have donor bone grafts it was busted so bad and both wrists were broken, the right one bad enough that I still have a steel plate in it.I can walk now but not very well and the Max I hope will let me get to places that I used to be able to walk to.I'll take my cell with me and I plan to put a hot plug on the dash just for that purpose. In colder weather like Dennis says it would be prudent to take along matches or a lighter and a blanket and some warmer clothing. The tarp would make an excellent shelter in bad weather, just dont forget a length of nylon rope.I think it would all fit nicely in a large gym bag and could be thrown in or out as needed.

I think this is all too the good. Have a cell phone naturally, though reception can get spotty depending on area. Always carry two high tech hiking poles, though that only helps if you can at least limp along. Didn't think about the "shelter" business. Ithink I like the idea of leaving a schedule with somebody neutral. Oftentimes I have to ride into several up and down very steep ridges where an accident would leave you virtualy unfindable.

Flares like the ones used for boating might be a good thing too? You can even buy them at Meijer, or Walmart. Hunters orange vest, or such too.

how about some clean water to drink and some warm clothing? And with the 12 volt power point, those plug in heated vests, pants and socks used for cold weather motorcycle riding?

Might want to stay away from the fancy stuff, you might be broke down because of elec. problems so there goes your protection, flares ....well they will find ok just look for the forest fire. Most cases hunters carry a brass whistle it will help if your to tired to yell, and d-cell flashlight in a 1 1/4'' pvc pipe hose clamped under your seat will always be there.frozen bottle of water in lunch box keeps lunch fresh plus you can drink the water. If your a surviver of the blizzard of 77' in weastern NY you probably carry a pair of carhart bibs or a snow suit in your truck anyway.Last but not least those man made logs you buy are great fire starters if you cut in slices the size of hamburgers, 2 or3 in a bag not effected by humidity.Your most likely to die from exposure than your injury.

Well, lets see, they are a watercraft, and they can break down in the water too. It might take some common sense not to fire a flare into a dry woods, but most everyone that rides should have some common sense. If someone was searching for me with aircraft, I wouldn't hesitate to fire a flare either.

I am wheelchair user (can't walk), and I usually try to ride with other people. But sometimes do ride alone. I have a whistle on my key ring, usualy pack my 44, and let someone know where I am going. When alone I go around things that look like I could get stuck in. I am new to this sport, I just bought a 2006 Argo conquest 8x8 this last spring. Still learning its capabilities. Click on my name to go to my profile and see pic of me and machine.

Today out on 1400 acre ranch. Saw fresh mountain lion tracks from the night before, no gun with me of course. One good thing about Max and Argo, they are so loud and pushy, all you have to do is aim them at a critter and they are spooked. But I like the gun idea. Of course, the customer kind of wonders.

Access: the Van II always been a little crowded entering & exiting, no leg room etc. Anybody had experience with Avenger or Frontier for getting in and out and legroom. With a bad knee I need all the slide in room I can get

John Prince, do you use your machine for your work? I clicked onto your homepage in your profile and read the discription on the homepage, and figured if your going to look at so much propetry, the ARGO or max is the perfect vehicle for one to do that.

Exactly, use it almost exclusively for work which really makes my grandkids unhappy, the reason to buy a second I guess, a little bigger, maybe more fun, less work related. Biggest issue here is the extravagant topography of this county, up and down, steep up, steep down. But its all the more reason to have such a vehicle. Oftentimes I climb trails steep enough that I would have to consider dropping to all fours if I was trying to hike them, not that I can hike anymore. I have a website with some of these places posted, but sounds like I best not try and give the link except its somewhere between www. and .com.

I started with a Max for about a year, liked the way it ran uphill, beat the Argo every time, but the downhill was too hard on an "arms" only braking system, so shifted to the Van II. But, as I have complained elsewhere, the 16hp just barely makes it to the top many times. But it never gives up. I have sold ranch after ranch based on giving the customers a one car rolly coaster ride.

Yes, that's right, and so it is there. Actually if anybody ever gets this far West, I always have a ranch that is available, even a couple ponds that I have never ventured out on.
