I have owned my 2005 Argo Avenger for almost a year. I live just outside Yellowstone Park and most of its use is between 7,000 to 9,500 ft. elevation. I wish it had a little more power in the winter when I have the snow tracks on. I am considering buying a diesel Centaur. Has anyone had any experiance with both and what are the pros and cons? Would the Centaur hold up better under heavy use? |

Richard, my understanding is that the Centaur diesels have absoulutly no power at higher elevations. There was a guy about a year ago who purchased one in Eastern Wyoming to go up to a cabin and it just wouldn't do it. If I remember right he talked and talked with the factory trying to get it to work and eventually sold it. |

I heard the same thing from Fred Sowerwine. He is afraid I would be unhappy with the power. I would hate to spend an extra $1o,ooo to find out it was underpowered. At this elevation I never use high gear. Is there a way I can gear down my low gear to make it lower than it is now and also lower my high gear down to where my low is at now? I am not looking for more speed just more low end power. I have already installed high elevation jets and installed lighter wieghts in the clutch to make it kick in at a higher rpm and it dosn't seem to do what I need. This machine runs around great if it is just me, problem is that most the time I need to haul 3 other people. Actually it dosn't do to bad with both my wife and I. My machine is supposed to be rated to haul 6 people but I can testify that it won't do it in this high an elevation with the snow tracks on. If there is anything I can do to make it a little more lower geared I would appreciate the advice. Also I have a 25 horse powered Kohler engine. Is there a more horse power engine that I could put in without much problem that might take care of my problem? |

Rick, Kohler makes a 27hp 28hpEFI and they just came out with a 30hp.The 25,27,28 I think have the same foot print. The 30hp I am unsure of the foot print. |

Have you tried adjusting the engine for higher altitudes? Don Jones at Wilber's Knife and Argo in Carson City did that to my Conquest and altitude is no longer a problem. He may be able to advise you. |
