The new Max II with a 20hp Kohler is planned to come out next month. The back will look a little different as the engine needs more room. The current engine cover and small cargo area will be gone. It will be flat and probably somewhat similar to the IV's engine cover. The cargo rail is standard equipment so there is still plenty of cargo room. The muffler will be inside the engine compartment with only the end of the pipe coming out of the body. The best part of this new Max is the speed. RI claims a much lower safety top speed than it will actually be. The actual expected top speed will be 43mph, making it the fastest production 6x6. Later this year RI plans to have a much thicker, softer seat in the Max. Finally! Mine is nothing but a board and it might be softer if I sat on a concrete brick! Also planned is an under seat storage area like the Argo has. The red body of the Max will be killed and sold out. New colors planned will probably be blue and camo. They might cycle new colors each year. Example, 2001 models be available in brown, green, and blue. 2002 models be available in brown, green, and yellow just as an example. I want a yellow Max! Argo has a new dump box for the 8x8s as seen on their site. It is available in manual or powered lift. This is a nice improvement because it is easier to haul some things and can be used like a Mule or Gator would be. MaxRules |

I hope all of you have seen the pics of the new Max II 800-T. What do you think? |

Brandon, Looks like they put a 20 horsepower engine in a old max and charged $2,000 more. :) |

Pete you could never be more wrong. The new MAX has cooling ducts bringing cold air in and exiting hot air out the other side. The muffler is now inside the vehicle resulting in a much quieter MAX. I saw one of the first ones at a dealer. It looks great. A very clean looking design. Remember ther is no replacement for displacment. This vehicle runs well and pulls hard from 0 to top speed. |

Bob, You mean they kept the stock muffler and added a fan to the machine. So that's worth 2 grand more? I'm sorry maxes just don't impress me and I would not pay $5,000 or above for a max. Go ahead and pay $7,000 when I have to pull you out then we can see. |

Pete, Something else, it does not cost $2000 more to get the 20hp. |

Hustler, After you get done paying taxes and shipping it will. I'm just not seeing it the big draw here, they but a little bigger motor in the same framed and same body max 2. So what if they have a fan that draws the heat out it's just a small cfm fan and a few pieces of metal. That's about all I'm seeing changed here. |

The new 20hp is a real nice ATV but what I really want is that new Attex with the 25hp. Oh wait they don't make that one, that company didn't make it into the '90s. RI has finally gone out and made a real update to the Max II. They made some much needed improvements. I always said they need a different place for the exhaust after seeing how it got covered and clogged with mud on mine. It also steams a lot in the winter time when it gets cold water on it. RI made an excellent choice on putting the whole muffler inside the body. It is routed out the back and really cuts down on noise. Notice how they didn't put it in front of the riders like our favorite three wheel drive friends did. I also like the features of the engine. It has an accellerator pump on the carb and hydrolic valve lifters. The pump gives it much better throttle response so it jumps off the line quicker. Hydrolic valve lifters means you never have to adjust the valves and this will hopefully cut down on the backfire problem. I like the redesigned cargo area. The standard cargo rail is a good idea so you can strap your junk down. On my Max I have to put a bag with all my tow straps and chains in that little hole on the right side. The engine cover area is almost useless on the older models. They solved that problem with a flat cargo area. We all like lower prices, but I do not see the 800-T's price out of range. Most of the big 4x4 quads are priced at $7000. Honda and Polaris sell almost a quarter million of these things per year. RI sells a real ATV with a 624cc twin cylinder engine for $8225. They sell maybe a little over a thousand 6x6s per year. The quads seem to be the ATV that is over priced. MaxRules |

Brandon, First of all Attex didn't make it to the 90's because of RI's underhanded business practices. $8,000 is alot of money for an aatv that should be $4,000. Quads are overpriced and if you found out how much they spent to build them it would surely annoy you. I'm an Attex person and one day they will be back! |

Yeah...Attex will be back when monkeys fly from my butt. By the way RI does not use an external fan. They are ducting though the engine fan. Everybody on this board whines that argo and RI never make any serious changes. Now all of a sudden we have some major changes, and you all are still not happy. |

Attex was just ahead of their time. The Tucker auto was ahead of its time too. I have noticed many similarities between the new Max and the old Attex. In fact, does anyone know if Max purchased some of the rights to Attex designs?? It appears so. As far as which is a better machine--we will never agree. On one thing we can agree, that is that they are a lot of fun, regardless of the logo they sport. |

Pete, Unless you see the new Max II up front, you will tell as posted above, the new design is a great improvement and the bigger engine is also good. I have 2 in stock and already sold 2 this year. If someone is willing to buy the Max II 18 hp, I think the few extra $ is well worth getting the 20hp instead. I do agree with you that the cost of all atv's are way to much. Unless everybody stops buying them, they will not drop the price, and that is not going to happen. |

Pete I hear you blabbering about how everything but an Attex is overpriced but since they have not made an Attex for many years you may be surprised at what they would cost if they ever do come back. It sounds like you're stuck in the seventies both technologically and pricewise. |

Guys, I have seen the new Max II 20hp and it is a big improvement over the older models. The price is a bit steep from what I've seen but there is alot of extra goddies for the $$. The Argo Bigfoot is cheaper and you get about the same machine but with more room. The cargo area on the Max II is a joke. There is no room to store anything. Oh yeah and when Attex made a 14hp hollow axle model.....they threw it in the junk because it was deemed worthless. Attex made high quality high horsepower machines that would make a 14hp Max II look like a moped...Kemp |

Hey Pete I was just kidding about being stuck in the seventies too but I just had to try to get you going since you were pickin' on the machine I just bought. Really though at the dealer that I bought my Max from I could got the 800T for less than I could have gotten the 600T because RI had a $500.00 rebate on the 800T. I would like to have gotten it for $4000.00 like you said though. |

Pete, That site is soooo funny. It sure shows that a "three wheeled" Argo can go through more that a certain person's MaxII. Can't really combat that one can ya Brandon? Kemp |

Let me clear up some things about that site. Most of pics that show me stuck, are areas where I already got farther than the Argo. Other pics that say I'm stuck are really just places where I might have spun a little. These people don't seem to understand what stuck really is. The pic of the Argo going through the ditch that says I should watch him. Well, I was the first one to make it through that. The Argo got stuck the first time but did eventually make it through after winching out. Then comes the pics of me sideways in that steep ditch. The Argo was stuck before it got to that ditch and I passed it up. Then I landed the wrong way in that ditch right in front of the Argo. The Argo's winch cable was in front of me so I had to back up. I could have got out easily if I could have kept going, but the oversized paper weight was in the way. Then comes the pic right before that "wheelie" of me stuck. I could make it through that going the other direction but every ATV there was stuck in that spot countless times. Then the wheelie pic that says I'm stuck. Well, I guess I am until I put it in reverse and back up... Then there is a pic of me going up a sand hill and side hilling at a good angle. I was the only one with balls big enough to even try that one. No doubt the Max could have gone all the way up with a few more tries and some time. My chicken friend was scared and jumped out so we just went on to the next mud hole. And, in no way was I stuck. The first day I got there, we went riding at night and Bill wanted to show me this mud hole. We got to the mud and he is scared and wants me to go first. I take off across the mud and make it, barely spinning a wheel. Here comes the Argo and gets burried almost instantly. They must have 'lost' that pic. Then another day there was this big hill, all mud and slicked off. I was third in line with two Argos in front. They came to this hill and started to go up and just spin. They tried for a few minutes and I said to move aside and let a real ATV go up. I go up the hill and I don't think I even spun a wheel. Very easy for the Max. The Bigfoot then tries countless more times and does finally make it up. Then comes an Argo Vanguard and it just can't do it. We were there it seems a good 30 minutes. I think we ended up winching it up but I can't remember. They also forgot about the time the Bigfoot could not go up a tall steep hill because it runs out of gas. Max goes right up while the Argo is choking at the bottom. Low gear really helps doesn't it? ha There was also a narrow area of mud with a tree on one side and a vertical bank on the left. The Argos could not get through. One even rolled on its side trying to move around. Here comes the Max again and goes right through. Take away all the lies of that site and it's clear, MAX RULES! |
