As mentioned on another thread, let's make a run to Deepwater. I'll kick off the discussion by throwing out a few dates for consideration, beginning in a few weeks: March 18 March 25 April 8 April 15 Last year we rode on the first Saturday in April, but I am booked on April 1 this year. Are any of these dates better than others for y'all? |

Deepwater is an area and town over in West Missouri. It is a good place to ride with lots of mud and water. Brandon has photos of rides there on his homepage. You can find it by doing a search for deepwater missouri. |

Jerry, the only places I have rode are private properties. No offroad parks yet. Plan on going to bricks 4x4 farm next weekend. Probably on sunday. I have been waiting to go to any IL state funded ones that require a sticker until after Apri 1st, that way I dont have to buy a sticker that will only be good for a couple months. |

Makes sense. Paddy's Bluff was nice, Turkey Bay is very good, Haspin Acres is great. St Joe is very nice. All of these are within a couple hours of Mt Vernon. |

Yes Cooper Creek is the state OHV park we call Deepwater. Deepwater is a tiny town off the highway.

I am going to just pick a date and head out with the family. I'll post here once the date is finalized, in case anyone else wants to tag along. If nothing else, I'll see if any 4 wheelers want to play "follow the leader." |

I am getting close to planning a date for Deepwater. A friend of mine (rode a Swamp Fox at a previous ride) just bought an '02 Max IV 25hp last week. I have an '04 Max II lined up for purchase probably within the next week. This II is one I sold about two years ago to a local guy. It has all the goodies on it including a winch and all-weather package. I'll post back when I have it and we're ready to roll. I'm thinking March 25 or April 8. I'll do my best to keep this vehicle on hand at least all summer. Anyone interested in camping overnight (on a warm night) out on the trails? I'm thinking the cliff on the lake would be a great spot. A Bigfoot might get us, and I don't mean an Argo. |

No ATV sticker needed at Deepwater. Just show up and hit the trails. Let's hope for some rain, both for the farmers and for the mud! |

Right now it looks like March 25 will be the one. I want to wait until Saturday when I pick up my Max II before I start spreading the word. I am glad to see so many interested. I have told Recreatives about the ride and they seemed willing to spread the word and tell potential buyers in the area about the ride. That's a great way to show people what these machines will really do. No brochures or videos, just real good riding. My Ride:

Rick, Roger, Brandon, and to all the rest. I don't have a 6wheeler anymore... but i will still come to ride with you all. Everytime I've been to Deepwater/A.K.A. Cooper creek riding area.I have not seen a 6 or 8 wheeler in the last 5 months, and i think it's about time again. As usual I will be staying at Sparrowfoot campground.Unless I just pack all my junk in country, and camp by the lake. On a more somber note note... Bud,I was sorry to hear about TROY. We will miss him.Especially when it came to which machine was better, argo or max.My thoughts and my prayers go to you and your family. |

Brandon, I wondered when you would be able to buy back that sweet MaxII that you customized. I have the 25th on the calendar. If my son Josh can't make it due to his wrestling schedule, I might be able to talk my wife into coming out with me. I am working on getting newer (bigger) trailer before then, but can make the old one work if I really shoehorn the MaxII onto it. |

March 25 will be the official date for Deepwater. Let's hope for some good weather. I've sent a bunch of emails and have people to call. I picked up my Max II today. Here is the email I sent and the info for everyone on this site: Maximum Off-Road is sponsoring a 6x6 ride at Deepwater off-road park on Saturday, March 25. This park is located just south of Clinton, Missouri on highway 13. It features 800 acres of the best trails, hills, mud holes, and lakes that all amphibious ATV riders are sure to enjoy. All riders should plan to arrive at the park by 10am Saturday morning. We will be riding all day Saturday as well as Sunday for as long as everyone wants to ride. We will also have a Saturday night ride so plan to stay late! Deepwater is public land for all ATV riders to enjoy. This park has no admission fee or any special posted rules. Everyone should ride safely and responsibly. It is located on Truman Lake and some of the park is flooded at different times of the year. This makes it a perfect place for our amphibious vehicles. All riders are encouraged to attend and to bring others interested in seeing these amazing vehicles in action. Visit Maximum Off-Road’s website at www.RealATVs.com for maps and directions. Call or email if you need any additional information. Our 6x6 group should be easy to find in the parking lot so everyone can meet up. My name is Brandon Price and I’ll be driving a red Ford Powerstroke with Argo magnets on the doors and I’ll be riding a camo Max II with winch and roll bar. |

DEEPWATER is only five days away. The weather is trying to give us some trouble with cold temps. We might get six inches of snow tonight. That will probably be gone by the weekend so let's hope for at least 50+ degrees. Hot or cold, rain or shine, I'm ready to destroy that place. Many people are planning to attend. This should be a good one. |

I wish I knew about the Deepwater Meet eariler so I could have planned for it. I would love to come up and meet ya'all. Is there any other meets scheduled in the summer months yet? If so, lemme know, as both my wife and I would love to come up with our Bigfoot. We already have camping gear, so that's no problem at all. |

Looks like im going to have to work saturday, so i may be able to get there for sunday. I was putting the gear on my Attex yesterday and found out the chain was shot too. So i ordered a 50' rool to replace all the chains. So its gonna have to stay home. I got a throttle cable for richard for my dads max II, but it is way too long. So i may just have to come down to visit. So close |

Wow! What an awesome ride. I rode so hard that I'm all sore and tore up today. It looks like we had nine vehicles show up. Max II, Max IV, Bigfoot, Avenger, and more were all there. Nobody broke down but Rick managed to sink the front of his Bigfoot and flood the engine. He got it fixed up within a few hours and was back on the trails. Deepwater is sure a great place to torture our vehicles. I have over 50 pictures of the ride that I'll be posting on my site soon. Anyone else with pics of the ride, send them over! |

The night ride was lots of fun. Most people were scared of the dark. Roger and Rick stayed with us most of the time right up to dark. After that, Brian and I explored new trails and got lost out there until almost 8:30. It was a very clear night and nice out there. Once we found our way back to the parking lot we were the only two people left in the park. That is one awesome place to ride. My Max suffered only minor damage from a sharp rusty bolt that stuck in the left middle tire. The front left tire was also flat from an old wound. It was pulling left bad by the end of the night but those k-rims held tight! I just posted eleven new pictures of the ride on my site. I'm still waiting for more pics from Bud and others. I really want to see the pic of me climbing over that big log. Woohoo! |

Went to Rockport yesterday, couldnt get all the way to Deepwater ride.It was a excellent time also, the trails were muddy and slick, plenty of water holes.I ended up taking the AV-4 and am still being impressed with this machine. For the money it goes as well as a 6- wheel drive, floats just as well, and climbs reasonably well. The only negative I have is it needs a full skidplate.I put a skidplate on the drain trough but it needs a full plate ,I contacted LIL CRITTER and they have one now so I will probably order this piece. The only other noticeable item was a little brake fade near the end of the day, took a little more effort to lock the brakes. I guess that is understandable since I put another 6 hours on the machine yesterday. Eddie |

I was not all that impressed.Brandon, you should have read your own E-mail, didn't you go home around 6 P.M. Saturday? What happened to your night ride? And did you even see Rick flood his buggy? or did you just happen to hear about it when you got back to the parking lot.I don't mean any disrespect, but i think you have a lot to learn about putting on a " RIDE ".And I don't think it is to much to ask for you to at least try to keep the group together so that everyone can enjoy the same things,at the same time. Try asking Bud Moore, or John schwaab,or John Hogue, just to name a few.You can ask anybody for input on how they would do it,and then make a decision from all of their ideas.Good luck with your next ride,I hope I can make it,I enjoy going to Deepwater any chance I get, especially when I can ride with old and new friends. Oh Rick... change your oil again!!! And don't forget the filter. Roger, good to see you again. You all take care and I'll check in on you from time to time. Once again Brandon no offense, just hopefully helpful criticism. ' |

Mike I don't understand any reasoning behind that statement. My previous post says I left the park after 8:30pm, after the night ride, and my friend and I WERE THE LAST RIDERS IN THE PARK. Brian and I rode so hard that only Steve and Joe could even keep up at all. We had to slow down and wait for others all the time. It's common for the group to be split up and it happens at every real hard ride. This is no tender footing trail ride like others you refer to. This was the best ride I've been to in years and everyone had an awesome time. Mike where were you and what were you riding? You were not at the same ride as the rest of us! |

I'm curious what a person would like to see to make a ride a fun safe time for everyone. I'm wanting to set up a ride at either Little Egypt or Paddy's Bluff or maybe Turkey Bay. I personally like a fairly unstructured ride. Basically a time and place to meet and a chance for amphibious ATVs to hit the trails together and socialize. I thought the ride at Deepwater would have been a very nice gathering and a fun time by everyone. Unfortunately I had to work all weekend with my normal patrol shift then at concerts in the evenings so I was unable to attend. I would think a location that doesn't require admission or restrictions on equipment, with camping and lodging would be good for most people. It has been my experience with setting up scuba trips to local and international destinations that it normally takes a full year of planning and advance notice for a trip to run smoothly. What was promised on the Deepwater trip and what was not delivered? What do people like to see and do to make an outing fun and successful? I thought Brandon took charge and set up a trip for people to get together and do some riding and socializing. There had been an interest in members of this board wanting to get together but no one was putting anything together, so he set something up. So if I or anyone else sets up a trip what would people like to see and do? |

two things that always seam to make the humphree (now olean or copperridge)rides work was: (1)someone who knowes the trails lead the rides, there were others who knew the trails mixed in just in case of a brake down and the groop had to split up then another took the second groop, that way knowone nead fear getting lost, (had cell phones and F.R.S. radio's too!) (2)in open non structured main event type rides the trail was compleatly marked all the way threw with colored paper arrows, ocationaly optinal arrows marked bypasses for rocky or steep grades, ect..ect.. i had ofered the idea to use diferent colors to also indicat shortest rout to or back to the main parking area, but any point of interest would do, such as bathrooms or snackbar that come to mind, |

David our rides are not guided trails for people that are scared to go their own way. Mike was way out of line with that post and it is not based on fact. He was not even there Saturday with a vehicle to ride. I don't remember talking to or even seeing him. Myself and a few others ride harder than 95% of all 6x6 owners I've ever met. Some people on the ride like to see others ride hard or just go on another trail and ride their own way. Never before on any rides in this area that Bud Moore set up or any others has the group stayed together. That would be one lame ride. I show people what these machines will really do. I'm well on my way to setting up another one of the greatest rides ever at Rockport. Who knows, this one might be to good for some people also! |

It was great to see everyone. Josh and I had a really good time. Brandon, I am out of town for a week, but will email you the pics when I get back. That log climb shot looks good! My favorite is that guy in the Yamaha Rhino that learned that his ATV could not travel in the same circles as an AATV... Bud |

What if others near the Deepwater area were to go out, and mark all the trails the day before? Use flagging tape, tied around trees, and after the meet was over, a simple drive thru removing them would be easy. Lowes sells flagging tapes in many different colors, in rolls that measure 1" x 600' for only a cpl of bucks per roll. Why couldn't that be used? Use orange tape to mark extreme trails, yellow tape to mark semi aggressive trails, and green tape to mark all other trails and blue tape showing the trails that lead directly back to the parking lot for those ppl who do not know the park. How hard would it be to do that? Just making a suggestion....

David, none of us need to waste any more of our time on such a ridiculous subject. Mike has not replied to back up his statement and several people I talked to did not see him there. Maybe next time he'll bring his 6x6 along with others he knows to make it a bigger and better ride, instead of just complaining at a keyboard. Deepwater is nothing like the trail rides in New York. It is a big area with trails everywhere and we ride anywhere we want. There is no way I will ever set up a slow moving, easy riding, 'follow the leader' trail ride. Everyone who was actually at the ride this weekend knows how awesome it was. END OF STORY |

Eddie and others who have trouble making a post: If you will register using your real name, valid email address, etc. (and remember your username and password) you can post with out any problem. It is only unregistered posters that have this trouble. If you allow cookies on your computer, (and aren't worried about someone else posting under your ID) you can have your computer remember your user name and password - then all you have to do is post. |

Wow! Just got home from work and read the above posts about the ride. Well, as I stated earlier, this was a fantastic ride. Mike, I did not get to meet you and talk to you at Deepwater. What were you riding? I got there at about 9:30 am and we started riding around 10:00 am and I didn't leave until after dark. Sorry I missed you. There were experienced riders and also a first timer there and as far as I know, everyone had a blast. Maybe we can set up another ride in April or the first part of May and you can come and experience it for yourself. For the most part the group stayed together most of the time but the hard riders did go on thier own some also. Anyhow, I had a great time. |

weird it wouldent alow me to type a mesage at all this time without cloaseing? is it my pc? took a few tryes opening new ones, anyhoot rides like you mention are only managable from say 12- 20 machines, or there abouts, (like petes in NJ) rides like i thought ideas were asked for such as the ny jamborees draw from 80 - 120 registered drivers, they do not compair then, or did i just compair them? |

Hey, guys, I had a great time on this Deepwater ride. Brandon, you can't please all the folks all the time. I ended up having to leave early Sunday, but that was for personal reasons, nothing to do with the ride. Hope to see you guys on other rides. Henry |

I just learned that Mike was one of those guys riding those off-road go carts. I guess he expected to follow our amphibs with a cart. That's just funny. If a Yamaha Rhino with 28" Outlaws couldn't hang with us, you know what a go-cart can do. Mike, get another Bigfoot and come back to see what an awesome Deepwater ride I can put on. I am working on a date for the next ride at Rockport, Illinois. I am calling the owner of the park tomorrow to see what kind fo deals we can get for riding. Remember this is a privately owned park so this is the future of our rides once all the communists close our public parks. I'll post the date soon so everyone can plan. Also, this is not "MY" ride. It is team effort by lots of 6x6 friends to get everyone together to have fun and show off our amphibs. |

Here's the infamous Mike Martindale at Deepwater. Oh wait, that was a couple years ago. He was disguised this weekend in a cart. By the way, I test drove his friend's cart, and it was a blast! It has something wonderful, called suspension, and a lot of travel in it too. Mike was perhaps somewhat blunt and crude in his critique. Maybe the wife chewed on him and he had to vent where it was safe I think the meat of Mike's post is: "And I don't think it is too much to ask for you to at least try to keep the group together so that everyone can enjoy the same things, at the same time." I had a good time, camping and riding. It didn't bother me that Brandon and Brian took off in the lead and didn't always wait for the pack. I know my way around the place so I don't need a guide. I didn't feel like leaving the guys behind me though, some without a winch, etc, not knowing if they would be alright on their own and make it back to the parking lot. As long as someone has at least one buddy, it's ok, but broke down/injured/lost on your own could be trouble. Maybe we could have crude maps and a compass, going NW would have brought anyone back to the parking lot. Exchanging cell phone #'s and choosing a channel for the handheld radios before we leave the parking lot. Splitting into two groups, etc. When I go to Haspin, I act like I have so many mud puddle credits. Each one buys me play time at the groups expense, ie the group is waiting on me. After a couple of those and holding up the group, I'll bypass obstacles and stay caught up, letting someone else have their moments. There's no easy choices, everyone either rides like they want to, or the wagon train stays in formation with radios front and back, or something in between. I'm not complaining or suggesting, just thinking out loud. Ok more pictures, still shots off of video. This was the steep slippery slope that Rick dunked the LF corner of his Bigfoot in. Water in the cylinders, intake, carb, etc. |

Mike, I just hope you had as good a time as I did. Hope your film came out good as we were waiting for the chopper to set down in the parking lot. Did not get any pics. Next time I am at Deepwater I will look for a renegade in a cart. |
