I have a Siera that currently has a running 2 stoke non original Hirth engine in it. It runs fine but is LOUD! I have a Kawasaki 20 hp 4 stroke liquid cooled that is brand new which I won in a lottery. I am considering making a swap. Alright, my question is... what are the benefits or disadvantages of running the 4 stroke? Will I gain or lose power? Speed? I know some of the obvious advantages (no more mixing, better emissions). It is mostly the speed and power thing I am concerned about. |

The four stroke has a lot more torque and the kind of power a 6x6 needs. The two stroke is usually faster if you can ever get it running and keep it that way. Those old two strokes are trash. A 6x6 can't use speed and high RPMs so all you have is a very loud over heated box of iron. Not many good words about a two stroke come from me cause I've been there. Make the swap and have a machine you can enjoy. |

Benefits? Turn key, ride, stop, ready for next ride. The 4 stroke will be much more quite than the 2 stroke but you will surely lose top end speed and acceleration but you will gain the low end grunt the 2 stroke does not have. |

A four stroke will be much more reliable, quieter, have more pulling power at low rpm, keep the environmentalists a little happier (for now), and be easier to maintain. It just won't be any fun, if you like the take-your-breath-away speed of the two strokes. The kawasaki is a great motor, so if you don't care how fast you go, it will probably be a good swap. Don |

I would go with the 4 stroke. The 2 stroke is good for speed,a lot of screwing around trying to get it to run right, and making yourself go completely deaf everytime you ride. |

Hi Gurk, Do the swap, but do some homework and get the kawasaki tuned with a cam, some port and exhaust work and a little work on the carb it should be good for 25-30 hp and you will then have the best of both worlds. |
