I really should stop talking to strangers, today I noticed a tatty looking Hustler in the back of a guys truck. I mentioned that I have a Chapparell and asked him how he liked his Hustler. "Dunno, my kid bought it and wants me to fix it up for him, I got the engine to run but it wont go cause the right side is stuck". So I told him that if he lost interest I might buy it from him, a half hour later it is mine! It does run, the body turns out to still be pliable and mostly in good shape, rear deck could stand to be replaced. Has two seats and a longer wheelbase than my Chapparell, also a 440 twin 2-stroke engine. Electric start works, the plastic recoil pully is shot. I don't know what he did yet, but the starter is always "On" when I hook up the battery, also seems to have no drive on the right side, it is not stuck as it moves easily when pushed. Tires are rotted, too bad as they appear to have been virtually new, there is still mold flash along the center. I would almost expect low hours from the light use the tires have seen, but the chains appear to be badly streched, one idler roller assy is missing. I cannot find a chassis or model plate, I would like to identify the model and year so that correct parts can be found and purchased. Is there a specific tire I must use in order to add tracks next winter? I plan to use it for duck hunting in the fall, and as a Sno-Cat if we get heavy snow this year. Lastly, I suppose the trans is the same as the old Chapparell? If this trans is lunched I may part out the Chapparell and keep the trans for this apparently much more common 6x6. |
