Rebuilt a Scrambler Gotcha but having issues w/ the steering. Will fade after a few turns and will have to either pump it and pull really hard to get it to steer (mostly on one side). Replaced the lines, tightened down the fittings, and bled the fluid a couple of times. I am not seeing any fluid leak and I seem to have plenty of brake material on the pad. Thinking of rebuilding the master cylinder but before I go this route was curious if anybody has had a similar problem they have overcome. If I do end up rebuilding has anyone found a source for the seals contained in the master cylinder? Thanks. |

Hi folks- Got home fairly late last night from Olean N.y. What a good time, what great people. I wanted to win the water race so bad, yeh right! Congrats to Tim (MUDBUSTER) for winning the umpteenth year in a row. Also on his new marriage, brings more new blood to the sport. Thanks again to all of the great people who made this weekend so enjoyable. See you at the Ledges!!!!!! W. Philip Cox |

The master cylinders are the place to check. The seal on the plunger tends to tear as it passes the fill port in the cylinder. |

Thanks Marc. It seems I got lucky for now. The fitting on the back of the master cylinder threads were worn allowing air pass through. In addition, I was able to shim up(e-clips) the area between brake pad lining and driver disk allowing the brakes to engage much quicker. Have you ever had to replace the seal on the plunger and would you happen to have a part number? |

Matt I bought a Gotcha brand new from Action Age Industries in Genoa,Ohio back in the 1970's. I went through the factory and watched parts of mine being built. As I recall the the guys at the factory told me to raise the back of the machine higher than the master cylanders when it was neccessary to bleed when doing maint. They said this helped move any air bubbles to the bleeders. I also seem to remember that they used transmission fluid in these systems. Marc is more of an expert with the Scramblers I think.Maybe he knows for sure. My Gotcha was green metallic metal flake with a roll bar, tracks and electric reverse. I had a 10 H.P.Tecumseh in it. Kind of wished I still had it. Good luck on your resto project. Post some pictures of your machine. I'd like to see it. |

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like a cool machine. Actually bought mine last year off Ebay. Before the auction ended, I went and saw the machine and offered him $1,000 on the spot. Auction ended a day later and I got it for less than $800. The original gold metal flake was in real bad shape and was forced to repaint in boat polyurethane. Would have liked to have kept it the original color. Replaced all the chains and half the bearings. Just put in a new 11 hp Tecumseh and torque converter last weekend. Runs well now. Not particularly fast but a fun machine nevertheless. The link below is some pix. The dent in the gas tank is what happens when the throttle sticks and the Gotcha attempts to climb the garage wall taking out a set of 6 ft. tall metal shelves. Funny now but scared the crap out of me then. Never fired that motor again. Matt- My posting above was not supposed to be on your thread. I apologise. I think I had a brain hiccup. W. Philip Cox |

Phillip, no damage done. Glad you had a good time. Was curious about why it was showing up but figured you just hit the wrong button meaning for it to go somewhere else. |
