I was thinking about some of the products / vendors that I've found restoring my Max IV. I figured I would post some of the stuff I've found to help other people doing a restore. 1. Boatlife life calk black. This is an rtv type calk but it's made for marine use and it's stronger than regular rtv. I used this to make gaskets and seal my outer flanges. Also it's designed to stand up against petroleum products. 2. Watercraft grease by Neo products. This grease is also made for marine applications. The thing I liked about this stuff is it's designed not to wash out. It almost has stickiness to it. Also it is clear and odorless so it doesn’t make a mess of everything. I had to call their # off of their web site you couldn't order this online. I've been really happy with this stuff. 3. McMaster’s supply. I bought two piece locking collars for my bearings from them (see the non eccentric setscrew bearing thread). They were great to deal with and their prices were good. What do you other folk’s use that you like? |

Yamabond, or Hondabond. This is an amazing gasket maker. It is semi-drying. I used this in place of a head gasket in a jetski, and it held up great. It is often used to seal crankcases in motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. I use it often instead of RTV. |
