Well it finally hapened. I was out cruising in my attex tomahawk, showing it off to a friend, puddle jumping with some deep enough to float in, when on the way back i heard a "clunk" and the left side locked up. I tried it in reverse. Same thing. So i pulled the hood up and found that the chain had fallen off and jammed up in the chain adjuster. Of course it started to get dark real fast. I left the machine and plan to go back and repair it sometime today (fortunatly its on private property and can't be seen from the road or other property. I think i will have to totaly remove the adjuster sprocket and bracket to drive the chain out. Anyone have a similar story or any advice? I guess the problem is pretty minor, hopefully the bearing is okay on the sprocket. The whole thing was more embarrassing than anything else. Nothing is quite like showing off your 6 wheeler, then having to walk back in the dark. |

Okay, it was a bigger oppsie then i had first anticipated. I couldnt get the bracket off, after twisting and twisting eventually the nut got super tight. So i unbolted the through bolt from the sprocket. Then drove the gear and chain out. Then reached down into the muddy watrer and fished all the little parts of the bearing out. Then the 17 (now 16) tooth sprocket out. Looks like im down for a few days. Richard had already gone home I'll have to call tommorow. |

Sounds like something that has happened to me about 10,000 times while riding an old 6x6. I hope you can get it fixed before Deepwater on the 25th! |

Hey, John; Sorry about the T'hawk sprocket, but it could've been lots worse. If Richard doesn't have an idler sprocket/bearing assembly, I'll look up the Fafnir/Torrington number for you. As far as I know they still produce the part. |

Hopefully richard has them in stock. He shows them on the web stie. If so, it shouldnt be a problem getting it fixed in time. Richard seems to ship stuff out fast! I should have my dads max II fixed this weekend (broken throttle cable) I could take it if i can't get the part by then. Ive done a bit of research already and it seems the replacement part is the AG2416 Thanks again for the quick responses! |
