Anyone got any suggestions or experience of how to fix a possible vapour lock problem? The engine falters and then cuts out when hot, and is a pig to re-start when hot (and often from cold). Sparkplugs clean + gapped& battery is strong, fuel is fresh, fuel filter replaced, fuel cap vent hole is unblocked. ['73 Argo 8x8 with Kohler 399cc 2stroke twin –Oxford, UK]

I had a similar problem on a cub cadet lawn tractor with a 14hp kohler 4 stroke. It would start and run fine and them just sputter and die. Turn it over and nothing. Let is sit a minute or two and would start right up and run a while and die. It had overhead tank so fuel isnt pumped and it would flow out fine down the fuel line. I took float bowl off multiple times and fuel would come out of needle valve. It turned out to be some crude in the passage on top of needle valve. It allow fuel through but was just restricted enough that motor used it quicker then it would enter the float. Not familar with kohler 2 strokes or there carb. and fuel pump/systems but it might be worth a look because symtoms sound similar.

We put a piece of clear fuel pipe in just b4 carb (great trick -recommended for any suspected fuel problems) and could see 2problems:
air leaks into pipe from carb when engine stops (hence pig to start). Have put vertical loop in pipe so that air bubble goes to top of loop. Do I need to replace diaphragm in carb to stop this.

Also noticed that engine runs well till air bubbles start coming up from tank. Turns out that tank outlet pipe nearly blocked with sediment so now putting a filter or raised pipe on to fuel pickup in bottom of tank.
