If I buy a Max IV body and frame at a good price would it be cost prohibitive to buy the rest and build a Max IV from scratch? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined but what would the dificulty in finishing a project like this? I would want the newre mods like solid axels, reinforced frame etc.. |

I saw those items for sale on Ebay just a short time ago. It was 1000 miles from me and the seller wouldn't meet me anywhere. It was a good deal for the pair of Max IVs, a fairly complete machine plus an extra body/frame rolling vehicle. The body you talk about would really only be good as a parts machine or to transfer parts from an older vehicle (like the seller was intending to do). You would have so many thousands in parts to make a body and frame into a working unit. On top of that, it is the old style body and not the new square headlight model. I just sold a very nice 1991 Max IV for $3600, I recommend just searching for a good used Max ready to ride. |

A limiting factor on speed in the water is determined by calculating the Hull Speed of a "boat". It can be loosely thought of as the speed at which the boat, in order to go faster, has to start "climbing up" over the wave of water created by the bow of the boat. Climbing up over that wave (getting onto plane) takes huge amounts of increased power. The hull speed in knots can be calculated by the formula HS=1.34 times the square root of the waterline length. To avoid the math that most of us have forgotten or care not to use, try this site. http://www.sailingusa.info/cal__hull_speed.htm This is the fact that caused me to sell my sailboat and by a power boat so I could go a little faster. |
