Points, point gap, and timing for JLO Rockwell as used in Chaparel 2J? I want to get it running again. Two wires come off the engine, both appear to go to the same terminal on the coil, so where do I add power for ignition? Anyone have a manual or at least a wire schematic for these engines or vehicles? All replies appreciated! |

Let me know what engine you are looking for specs for. Ignition power comes from the magneto in the engine. |

It should have about 18 HP. If you don't have a manual contact Richard. |

According to my old snowmobile manual the L296 is rated at 17.5 HP @ 5000 RPM, for comparison the L300, which is listed as having identical bore and stroke is rated at 19.5 HP @ 5500 RPM. All the specs shown for both motors are the same, including the carb make and model. |

I just bought another Attex. This one is a 400 chief. It has a Rotax 340 in it that runs. It also came with a JLO 400(399). Which would be the better of the 2 engines to use? I have a JLO 440 in my other machine and I know it inside and out. I have no experience with Rotax engines. |

My jigger is running on a 10hp Briggs. It's been re-engineered a few times, but it works OK. Still needs new cables and brake linings, though. I don't have a hydraulic pump. |

will i have a rule of thumb for air cooled 2 strokes thats prity cloase for most, it's 11cc's per hp so a 252cc would have aprox 22.9 hp or 22-23 hp call it 20 hp a 340cc the would be aprox 30.9 or call it a 30hp and so on, |

I'm not familiar with the L362. Are you sure it's not the L372/380? |

I just bought a 1974 MF Ski Whiz. It's model 404 which has a JLO 400 twin. I only get spark out of the right cylinder. does anyone know where i can get a new or better shape set of points? otherwise im probably going to sell it. |

Have you pulled the cover and looked at the points yet? Usually they just get really green and some sandpaper will get you spark again. Also, check the wires on the coil and the plug cap. the wire screws onto a threaded stud inside the coil and also screws onto a threaded stud inside the plug cap. I have seen these loose and corroded. Another thing to try is switching wires from the coils to verify the left side coil and wire assembly will give you spark. |

it also may sound stupid but if you leave out the plug that dosent fire and try to start it, you might be able to run engine this way for a few minuets, this sometimes beats the points that don't fire till they decide to conduct electrisity, i have done it myself three times, im not known for replaceing points,LOL |

My old Amphicat has a broken main drive shaft (the one that has the clutches on it). Does anyone have the specs (Measured Machine drawings) or a source for these. I can turn it, but can not put in keyways. Also, the Clutch assemblies look really bad, although they seeem to function...but while its apart, it might be nice to replace them.....are they an assembly that was used in some other vechicle and therefore may be available. Same with the Brake Calipers. How does one remove the inner bearings and main gear from that shaft....pressed on? Heat-shrunk on? After that I'll only need to make 3 axles and repair(?) three Tires. |

I have jlo 340 single cylinder , was wondering if it takes some kind of oil in the case. It has a drain plug in the bottom of the case. I never have seen a 2 stroke with oil in the case before. The engine is on a go cart. |

some 2 stroke engines have a plug in the bottom , i wish they all did. it helps to clean out a crank case when it has bin in storage say and fule/oil mix seperates or drys up leaving gunk in there that prevents proper operation when you try to use it next season, also same problems if you realy fload one. they can be a bear to clean out sometimes. i know one of my 2-stroke twins had 2 little screws like bleaders in the frount near bottom i used when it was flooded, worked super. |

Bob, If it is a two stroke there would be no oil in the crankcase. The drain plug is there is case of severe fuel flooding. Unburnt fuel would collect in the crankcase and it would take a lot of cranking to clear it out through the cylinder, so the drain plug is there to save your arm or the electric start. |
