Hey Everyone,
I just found something that works great to remove the fading from the abs/plastic bodies.It's a hell of alot of work, But so far it is taking the fading off the plastic. I have my argo which is almost faded white now, But with this method It is returning back to the factory green!
What it involves is using Scotchbrite pads and warm water to scrub the Oxidization (faded layer of plastic) off the underlying plastic. and then waxing the body with auto wax to keep it from fading again. i don't know exactly which grit the pads are but they work just right they strip the "old" plastic off and revel "new" plastic.
So far i have scrubed out one rear corner and it looks really good i will post pictures when i get it all done.
When I get finished I will have a "new" argo!!!

ive got an old attex. it is orange or yellow under the camo paint previous owner applied. I am sanding off the paint with a black and decker mouse sander. It is taking the paint off nicely, but the color underneath is splotchey. will the sanding paper do the same or is it too coarse. Did it come back to life when you applied thew wax? |

I bought a Hustler last week and started taking it apart, the body was oxidized badly the upper body was white from it, i started scuffing it whith scotch brite pads but with the wrinkle finish in the plastic it still showed alot of white, so as i stood in my shop wondering what would be the best way to clean this up, i looked over on the shelf and saw my small torch bottle and had an idea, i took the torch and started heating the body where i had used scotch brite and the oxidation went away quickly so i went over the whole body with scotch brite just to take a little of the top layer off then wiped the body off and started this process with the torch, not to slow and not to fast just a steady motion over the body in sections just enough to make the body look a little wet under the torch flame, not only did this remove the oxidation it brought the original color back to the surface, it took me about 4 hrs tonight and i did the whole upper body and looks almost like new it even has a shine, i took before and after pics and will have to post them when devoloped, this worked great on poly body im not sure how well it would work on abs but i think the results would be the same, be aware before trying this if you hold the heat in 1 spot to long you will warp the body but if you have a steady hand and paitence this will restore the original color to a plastic body, i hope to get pics soon. |
