I'm shooting from the hip here as I don't own a Max yet. It sounds as though you've either got a problem with the fuel pump/fuel line or a fuel filter. Why? because it runs for awhile till it exhausts the fuel in the bowl, then dies. The bowl slowly refills from the latent fuel system pressure pushing/drawing fuel through a restriction and then you can restart it. I would think a solenoid fuel shut off would kill the motor much faster and not allow a restart. Although is it very possible that the "restriction" I mentioned is at the solenoid. I would imagine the solenoid is the type where you apply power to hold it "open" - so applying a jumper wire from the battery would be a way to bypass any other circuitry (ignition switch). Just some thoughts. Hope this helps. |

I agree it sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Try bypassing the shut off solenoid by removing the fuel lines from it and connecting them to each other with a small piece of tubing. Al |

i had a similer problem last weekend, or shal i say a similer symtome, it's not relaited to kohler but interesting to some folks anyway, my 440cc rotax would not run at pete's ride, we even rebuilt the carb but it would start, run nice and use up what fule was in the bowl (pumped by hand) and then die! well after i got it home i found it had a bad spark plug, and so if one cylinder is not fireing the crank case pulse for the fule pump will not exist!! and that was all i needed to do to fix it, damm, somone kick me. hope everyone with a 2-stroke remembers this, |

Dave, Glad to hear you found the problem and it was something simple. Will you be at Humphrey this weekend? Russ |

yes i will, but im not shure if i'll bring both my attex (in above coments)and my max II, the double trailer dosent folow well and it's a bit ferther to humphrey, theres a little presher on me too chouse, and as of this time i have not found out for shure wether mud was to blame for power loss on the max when climbing hills or if my belt is worn,it's only got aprox 10 hours on it, whereas the attex is fine and a single trailer would follow even if i hit 70 on the highway, p.s. theres an early vertion of "petes spring fling 2002" video available, i'll bring a few with me just in case you want one, |
