I have a MaxII with the 14hp Birgs in it. I put screening, (just like in a screen door) over the vents, and used wire cloth behind it for support. It looks great like it came that way from the factory. Well I took it out on Saturday for about an hour and seemed to be hotter than normal, I could feel the heat coming up through the seat, never felt that before. But this was the warmest day there's been sense I've owned the machine, it was about 45 degrees outside. I went over to a dealer the next day and talked to him about it. He said I should take the screen off, it was restricting the airflow too much. I looked at his machine which has the new factory expanded metal over the vents to keep out the sticks and stuff but it’s hard to say if the screen is more restrictive than the expanded metal the factory used, it still lets the small stuff in. Anybody out there had any experience with this? Would appreciate any input. It took about 6hrs to install and I’d like to leave it on. Thanks in advance to everyone. |

hey lazerman: nice job!! now no mosquito will harm your machinery room!!!..unfortunately this screen media is very air restrctive..you must replace it with expanded metal 3/8 x 15/16....oveheated engine doesn't bounce well..( or at least doesn't last!!!)........best design will be a fiberglass made outside (hot air) duct made directly on place with light cardboard moulding ( a folder also work!!) work it on layers until proper thickness achieve...be carefull to get enough clearance for clutch and engine's vibration moves..........propper ducted hot air means happy and cooler machinery room when bounce!! |
