Hi guys I have a question about hysrostatic 6x6's and how they work. When you take the trackster and other hydro's and give it the gas or whatever you do to make it go foreward does it change the engine rpm or does it just open the fluid valves. I ask this because Ive seen lawn mowers work and they just keep a constant rpm and control the valves. Thank you |

Jim, I don't know about the trackster, but I have a KID. on it you pull it up to operating RPM (3000)and let the governer take over. pushing forward on the stick opens the valves. the more you push the stick the faster you go. Engine RPM stays the same.

I just looked at your kid atv's and that looks like a fun ride. Have you ever owned a regular aatv with the belt drive?? If you have how does this whole hydrostatic setup compare to it in capabilities? Ive never driven anything hydrostatic before so I dont know what it does. Does the engine ever stall if you're going up steep hills or does the hydralic fluid act as a power limiter? |

Jim, The kid was built to be a tractor. It is much heaver than most aatvs. I have never had any other aatv. I have only had this on a 3 months. I can not wait to compare it at one of these rides. the big advantage of hydro-stat is the engine is at max power at all times and you have max. tork just inching forward. If you push the stick to far forward on a hill, you can stall it. If you hear the engine start to lug, you just ease back on the stick for more power. I have climbed part way up a steep grade, stoped, and then finished the climb.

Jim, the other big advantage is all wheel drive all the time, and you can make the tires on one side go forward, while the other side is going backward! or spin in place. you can never do that with a skid steer! |

nice machine craig! you're one of the lucky ones to own a kid. it would be nice to see a shoot-out between the studebaker weisel and the kid. i guess neither one would really be a loser, as there are not too many aatv's built to "mil specs". i got a couple of amphicats that were built to "mits (man in the sewer) specs". |

Thanks roadwolf, I have never seen a Studebaker weisel, But I am really looking forward to see how it compares to a Max and Argo. I am sure at 2200 lbs empty, they will do much better in deep mud. but I don't think they would want to tug-of-war. even with my 75% worn out wisconsin engine. |
