would this be possible to do ?? could you place a 300 cc or 400cc motor in a older max?? would this fly ??

Hello,
Ya, I've been wondering the same thing. I don't think you'd have to use a 4x4 motor though. I would think that just about any larger quad motor would work. All it would take is changing the driven pulley over to a gear. And as long as it had an auto tranny (that is, one without a manual clutch), all you'd have to do is run a shifter (maybe an air shifter??). Of course, you'd probably have to install some type of cooling fan. Unlike a Briggs or other typical motor, they don't have an integral cooling fans built in.

The engine in my quad is 400cc, the engine in my Argo is 620cc. Quad hp is about 14, Argo hp is 20, Quad is single cyl. liquid cooled. Argo is Twin cyl. liquid cool. Makes no sense to put a quad engine in a AATV.

Depends on what engine you will be using. It's going to be expensive to get anything good. My Polaris has a 500cc high output liquid cooled engine putting out 38hp. My Max or any 6x6 for that matter, would not hold up to that kind of power in stock form. The Kohler and Briggs engines are great for low speed power but they are nothing when it comes to real horsepower speed and wheel spin.

Hi Brandon,

A Hp is a Hp regardless of revs, displacement, torque etc the design of the drivetrain determines how drivable any vehicle is with any given engine.

In fact Hp is basically Rpm x Torque so that for a 10 hp machine you get either low torque and high Rpm or visa versa if you want both that is more Hp.

Why wouldn't a MAX hold up to 38HP? An ATTEX 500 Superchief puts out about 50 HP and with the Max's heavier axles and newer design, it should hold up pretty well.

as far as i see a max should i have a older max with a 2 stroke chapperal 484 that makes 46hp@7ooorpm and mine is doing fine and it's a 1975 model

hey guys i mean likea a yamaha raptor motor that has been tuned those things make over 50 hp in an older (80s) max ll how would i connect this to the t-20

Scott,

Use a jackshaft with a sproket on one side and a snowmobile clutch on the other that connects via belt to the t-20. If you use a heavy jackshaft and heavy high speed bearings this should be fine. Create a linkage to engage the clutch on the motor and change the gears up or down and that should work.
