Some time back I asked for some help with a transmission problem and was pointed in the right direction for the fix. The transmission had a stripped reverse idler gear and I replaced it - now it travels in reverse fine. The problem I now have is the machine slips out of gear when going forward in low gear. The shifter moves forward (from the low position) and goes into no man's land between low and high gear and quits moving. Is there a chance I caused another problem by changing out the reverse idler gear. It's fine in high gear and even good when going slow when the machine is travelling under a load meaning going uphill but on flat ground in low it slips out of gear. Anyone had a problem like this who may be able to shed some light on a fix. Thanks in advance. |

You will have to replace the main shaft with low, gear, when gears get worn from grinding problems start with popping out of gear first Jeff Bar |

Does the trans have detent balls and springs to hold the shifter fork in the selected gear? If it was ok before the reverse repair work, I would doubt it suddenly needs gears replaced. |

No, it does not have detent balls and springs to hold the shifter fork in the selected gear. It's got me stumped - the only other thing I replaced was the brass bushing for the shift lever shaft where it exits the tranny casing. Maybe the slack in it prior to the reverse gear repair was helping it to stay in gear? Thanks for the input. |
