Hi, I have an 04 Conquest, 20 HP kawasaki liquid cool. The water temperature never steadies out at operating temperature. The temp will rise to over 200 and then it apparently opens and dumps the temp down to around 150-160 and then starts climbing again. Almost seems like it is just opening all the way and then closing all the way. The dealer says this is normal. What is you're opinion, good thermostat or bad?

Thanks, Mark

If it works anything like an automotive thermostat, then it doesn't sound right. It should remain pretty steady

The Kohler engine in my Avenger runs even cooler than the Kawi in your Conquest. I wish that it ran a little warmer because I can,t help but beleive that it would be more efficient at about 112* F. Our cars run with a pressurised cooling system, and a spring loaded rad cap and antifreeze instead of water to allow them to run at temps. well above 212 without boiling over. So why do our Argos run so cool?
I do not have an answer but if your Conquest is not overheating, I think you are all right with the fluxuations.
