Hi: I checked the rpm on my Max II 23 hp Kihler Command.I found idle to be 1450 (engine warm) and 3950 at top end.I set the idle to 1200 as the manual recommended but the manual doesn't spec high speed RPM,I'm assuming its 3600 RPM.Would having a load on it restrict it to 3600 RPM,even when swimming? And how does one reduce the high end RPM? |

Eldon, my 25 kohler turns 4000 rpm wot.My cable had too much slack once and I only turned 3300 rpm and lost a lot of top speed. Kohler manual says "the only setting that can be changed is the low idle speed". I am not saying that that is true but that is what the manual says.page 14 |

Hi Philip: Thanks for the reply.yes I read that in the Kohler manual as well.I had read something somewhere else claiming anything over 3600 was too much. That Kohler is such a sweet working unit I want to give it the best of maintenance. My Max II is an 850T with a full load of accessories.I bought it with 28 hours on it for $7000 Canadian. It is just like new.I have never had a toy that even approaches the fun this machine is. |

Thanks Philip.I checked after your last post in the manual for the Max instead of the Kohler manual and it said the high end RPM should be 3900-4000.At 3950 I am just about right. The problem I had was not having a problem. The Max is a bit of a small "Harley" like following. One has to understand the machine but once that hurdle is crossed, they are great. |

I'm learning - with your help: How do I set the idle, please? Mine is rather high and could be lowered. |
