Hello every one! My chains on my Max IV 25hp 150 hours(lots of abuse rode hard) are now making noise. I adjusted them as per manual but maybe one is streched, and the pitch is off. How long (hours) do these chains last. Looks like I will pull these out and check pitch and the chain rollers, any input? |

Finally got a good look at problem. It looks like both left and right primary drive sprockets shifted inboard. The chain is now rubbing on the adjuster rods. Are there spacers to keep this from happening, how are the sprokets help to the shaft? any one have pics or manual. I see set screws but I cant believe thats all there are does the sprocket float on the shaft and the set screw is the only thing that holds it from going side to side? Please Help. Heres some Pics

Here's what I think the axles have alignment holes in them (look at bottom picture. I looked at the middle axle and there are 2 right under the Primary drive sprocket it is in the wrong one, both sides you really cant see this because the engine (I have removed it) is right over this I cant believe There was no problem until I slightly tightened the chain. The original owner Bought it new in buffalo, he had all service done there. Maybe when they added the outer bearing cages for the track kit they didn't put the sprockets in the right alignment hole. This would be a simple fix but I cannot get the setscrews loose to move the sprockets out I have tried heat and now have busted an allen wrench(because it had the ball end off in the left sprocket this was not a cheap allen) Any thoughts?

I'd drill the set screw out, Use a laser pointer to get the sprockets aligned exactly where you want then drill partially into the axle through the hole in the sprocket then use a bolt instead of the set screw. |

I got the allen out with a pick and Magnet. Tommarrow at work I will borrow a snap on 5/32 Allen with 3/8 drive heat it up and try to get the original set screws out. If not i will have to drill them out and retap a size bigger. |

I've had luck drilling them then going with a larger bit till I could get an easy out in and turn out the set screw. Maybe the drilling causes the locktite to release. Drilling and tapping is not a problem either. If you get the sprocket loose you could get it lined up where you want it and scribe the axle then pull the axle and cut grooves on the scribe line and reinstall using snap rings. |

Try a left hand drill bit with drill in reverse. |
