I am in process of restoring my Attex 400 Chief. I have recently disassembled my T-20 and want to inspect all the wear items. I have heard that the bands should be replaced if they have gone under .100" (total thickness). Is this true? I have also been told they are around $120 each to replace. Has anyone had any experience with just applying new friction material? what material? What adhesive? what friction material thickness? Thanks in advance, |

Kirk The 100 thou number sounds about right but I do no know anything about 120$ or the glue used, but Richard from Richardrelics and this site used to charge 65$ for them, but that was about a couple years ago, but I do not think they would have went up that much. check with him 812-944-1643 Philip LA Osborn |

Thanks Philip, The prices are from Richard. I called him the other day. I am in the process of building a house, so I do not have the expendible cash right now to put out. I do, however, need the attex for my property maint. I am working with my materials engineer at work to develop a process and material selection for applying new friction material to the bands, and when complete I will be posting it here and other AATV websites. I mainly wanted to ask the question so I do not re-invent the wheel. |

You're in the realm of automatic transmission parts suppliers. I can't recall ever seeing a relined auto trans band. That industry would be the place to look.. you might find the company that makes the bands. |

The prices we told were our regular prices, 70$ for exchange, also told new outright price was near 110$ We keep all of them in stock ready to ship, along with all other T-20 parts. Thanks: Philip for the email to bring this to my attention. Bands are expensive anyway, we do not need any information stating they are even higher. I understand Richard, Sorry for my mistake of $120 each. Just for clarification, I have already selected friction material (recommended by the original designers Borg Warner) and have selected a suitible adhesive (recommended by the friction material supplier). I am just waiting for some environmental testing (temp, fluids, altitude, shock, vibe, shear strength and accellerated life)to complete and I will be finished. So far all looks good and at approximately $40 in materials for all 4 bands, it shure beats $280 at the exchanged cost. I have 4 of these machines and it would just be too much for me to maintain if I spent top dollar for all repairs and maint. I am sure I am not the only person in this position. And just for some information Rogersmith, it would be illeagle to reline an auto trans band for use on public roads (per DOT CFR 39.1983_24). |
