On our Saturday group ride my right headlight fell backward into the engine bay of my Avenger. Many people tried to put it back in but we couldn't! I have been trying now for two days to get it back in . I was trying to see how the other one was staying in and now they are both out.Are there any Avenger experts out there who can help me? Please. |

In the above pictures, the first picture shows the headlight in the rubber ring, with the little tabs that hold it there. The second picture shows the rubber ring all soaped up and ready to install. The last picture, shows the headlight being installed just before the last push sends the headlight right on in to the engine bay. |

Aren't there supposed to be 3 ''w'' type wire clips that hold it to the rubber ring, take some off your buddies old max. |

Phillip Do the Headlight rubbers have a grove which fits in body, like a early Max 2?, If so they install from inside the body not from outside in. Robert |

I would try installing from the inside. I'd wrap the groove with a piece of wire then push the rubber up against the body with the wire started through the hole in the body. Then pull on the wire to roll the bead edge around into the body hole. It would be like installing an old style windshield on a car. |

I think I put the rubber ring around the opening first, and then pushed the light in. Takes some force but it pops in, even dry. I posted on the other board to use black silicone seal around the edges of the rubber. Use a dish soap and water solution on your finger to smooth out the bead. Have not had the light pop out since and the silicone will peel off when the light needs replacing. |

Len Cater- If you are correct it will make me very happy. If the rubber ring were secured in the opening with silisone, then if as you say after the silicone hardened ,the headlight could be popped in using soap it might well be a more permanent fix. I was at the Toronto Boat show today and quite literally just got home. I will try again tommorrow but I am glad that I got your post because I was considering using Super Weatherstrip adhesive to fasten the light into the rubber then installing them as a unit into the machine.(PS." Martin" at ODG told me over the phone to install them as a unit, thats why I was trying to do it that way.) I will not use the glue. Thanks Len, I forget and your profile does not say. Do you own an Avevger? Jerry- I understand the theory behind your advice but there is very very little in the way of a grove that the body snaps into and as in the photo only a few tabs of rubber inside. I will try your approach first ,in the morning. Thanks Dennis and Robert, I am not familiar with Max ii headlights but the square headlights in my Max iv are secure as a drum. Dennis--W wire clips?? I dont think that applies to my problem??

Phil I have not seen one in person so I was just speculating and trying to come up with an idea. I'm sure you had tried a variety of way. Try not to get to frustrated. Maybe the rubber in first then the light is the way to go. I'm sure it is a simple install once a person figures it out. |

Jerry Nuss-You are a wise man. I get way too frustrated. I am going to play with my tractor till Monday. My wife called the factory and they called her back. Looks like I'm in for a road trip. If it solves the problem it will be well worth it. I will let you know. |

Len, Great update on your profile. I now recall your posting re: installing one extra center support for the folded windshield. ( that was long before I owned an Avenger). A talented friend showed me a method of having removeable stainless steel windshield hinge pins. if I do that mod. I will post a pic. |

I was at the ODG plant when they got there this morning at 7AM. They put my headlights back in and do not think that they will pop out again. I think that I am going to install a brush guard to try to help. |

Good to read you got it fixed Phil, did you get to watch what they did and how they did it? Did it pop out because of a contact or was it from a body flex? |

Yes Jerry I did watch. They too struggled a bit. They brought over the guy (Peter) who puts them in on the line. He said it was easier when he did it because the intake and exhaust screens are not riveted in yet when he installs the headlights. Peter gets one hand in behind the light to hold the rubber onto the light and try to keep the light from coming right on through while he pushes on the front. THey installed one new rubber bezel. Banging on the body seemed to have zero affect so we assume that something pushed on the light. They hope it will be fine now. I am going to install a brush guard!! I hope that some time they come out with a more secure update. |

The brush guard seems like a very good idea. I wonder how many other people are having problems with this. When I asked about it popping out I was thinking it might of flexed and it poppd out that way. I doubt you would get a whole frame and body flex but it could happen. I know the upper body on the Argos are very tough and thick, way thicker than on a Max, so it was just an idea. I suspect you are correct on it getting pushed out. Was there any damage like scratches or scuffs to the lens? Getting pushed out is better than breaking. On my Argo with glass headlights I shattered a few from hitting trees. |

jerry- the next time you see an avenger, look at the headlights-if you push on either end of the oval, it only takes a small push. they say that popping out is better than breaking, maybe. I was on a group ride and i didn't hit anything that i noticed. |
