Recently I replaced a tire on my '92 Magnum 8x8. A short time afterwards while riding I heard a noise coming from underneath the tub above the recently installed tracks. FYI the tires I am running are Goodyear Runamucks 22X10X8. Anyways, the track was riding on top of the tire (side cleats not fitting over top and onto the side)causing the track to rub on the top side and the following is what I had noticed. The new tire I had installed does have what seems like a squared shoulder versus a rounded shoulder around the tire. A better explanation may be when looking at the tire from the front or back it seems to be not as evenly round as the others. Have goodyear changed these tires in recent years to have a larger footprint on the ground or am I missing something here. I put the machine in gear and watched as the tracks spun with the machine jacked up on stands and this is the only tire I have this problem with. The others function as they should. I checked the tire pressure in each and all were good. When I jacked the machine off the ground there was definetly some slack in the track but I have always been warned about putting these on too tight. I do use two ratchet straps on the tracks when installing to get the track snug. The tracks are as mentioned - plastic supertracks joined link to link by .250" steel rod with the locking collar in the middle. Has anyone else experienced this problem and how tight is tight enough in regard to the installation of these plastic tracks. Thanks in advance for all replies.
