Have any of you guys had the same experience I have with it being hard to keep the Argo engine cool when temps approach 90 or higher? When I lived in West Texas, I would take the hood off and that helped with running cooler, but after a whole day of crushing brush the engine compartment looked like a leaf pile was raked into it. So I came up with this summer time hood. It's pretty self explanitary from the pictures. The one thing that maybe isn't easy to see is the hinges. I used 2 half inch nuts welded together for each hinge. That's just what I had on hand. I'm sure a piece of pipe or tubing would work just as well.
With this set up the fan and all works just like normal but much of the engine heat radiates out the top. Plus most debris stays out of the machine. When temps cool off just switch back to the stock hood. As an added bonus my brakes run cooler also, and we all know how important that is. I hope this helps some one. Phill   |

Looks like it would radiate right up into your face.I havent had any cooling problems that would warrant a different hood.Keeping the air inlet clean,and the motor washed off has been ok for me so far.Sometimes you need to remove the air inlet box and clean the recoil screen(thats where stuff gets lodged).Hope this helps |

My time in west Tx was the inspiration for this. June, July, August and september temperatures were normally above 110 degrees and I saw them as high as 117. Granted this is extreme as far as temps go but the machine ran so much cooler that when temps get above 90 or so I now use this hood and it's been very worth while. I know it won't be for everyone but for some of us keeping things clean isn't enough. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Happy hoilidays. Phill |

No Dave I didn't lose my hood. Like I said I used to take the hood off and it made the Argo run better. But all the debris from outside would get in the engine compartment. So this idea was hatched.I know alot of guys won't need this because of where they live and ride. But trust me on this, a day of riding in Ohio in july is one thing temperature wise. A day of riding in Val Verde Co. TX in july is something else altogether. When I first got there the locals welcomed me to " the 7 circles of hell" whatever that meant. But it was as hot as hell. Anyway Eddie Chace knows what I'm talking about. Thanks for speaking up Eddie. It's not all one world when it comes to using a 6x6. I sure don't mean to sit here and say "everybody that rides an Argo needs to have one of these" not even close. But if your machine gets hot in the summer, this has definitely helped me. The $200 sounds good, but come July I'd be kicking myself. It's pretty easy to make. I bet you could find someone that would make you one for $200 or less.
Hey , what part of PA are you from? I was born and raised in Lancaster Co. Lititz to be exact. They make things tough on 6x6's in PA don't they?

OK got it now. Yeah this time of year I put the original hood back on the machine.
I just moved here(Wyoming) from Greene Co. Spent some time in and around Pittsburg.Used my Argo in Washington and Greene Co. Lots of good places to ride there. Thanks for the reply. Phill |
