Hello every one! My chains on my Max IV 25hp 150 hours(lots of abuse rode hard) are now making noise. I adjusted them as per manual but maybe one is streched, and the pitch is off. How long (hours) do these chains last. Looks like I will pull these out and check pitch and the chain rollers, any input? |

What kind of noise are the chains making? Popping noises could be from broken sprocket teeth or a sprocket out of alignment. The o-ring chains in a Max IV usually last a long time even with little maintenance. Keep the vehicle clean inside and use some good o-ring chain lube on them. I just had a 2003 Max IV 18hp in for maintenance. It had 225 hours and I adjusted the chains for the first time. They barely needed it and were well taken care of. |

Finally got a good look at problem. It looks like both left and right primary drive sprockets shifted inboard. The chain is now rubbing on the adjuster rods. Are there spacers to keep this from happening, how are the sprokets help to the shaft? any one have pics or manual. I see set screws but I cant believe thats all there are does the sprocket float on the shaft and the set screw is the only thing that holds it from going side to side? Please Help. |

What year is it? Your sprockets are out of alignment. Yes, yours would be held in place by set screws. Newer ones are held by snap rings. |
