Hi everyone, I'm new here, what a great site.
I just bought a mid 80's argo magnum. Its my second argo but I've never seen this problem before. It works great when its cold, but after about 10 minutes it starts to lose power. If I put it in neutral the engine sounds good and revs up okay but in gear it has very little power. Has anyone had this problem before or have any idea what it could be. Any help would be appreciated.

I have this problem as well I found that if I turn on my cooling fan and took my hood off it helped somewhat? Maybe swelling in the bearings? a sign of getting weak/wearing out? Any of the bearings involved could be doing this, motor , trnas. Or another thought I had was the brakes if they are set TOO close thaty would expand and drag?? just a thought?

I checked the brakes and they are set okay. Someone told me that if there is air leaking in at the intake manifold it would cause it to run too lean and cause this problem. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Again I had the air leak problem! This is what happens when you buy a fixer-upper, the intake manifold where it attached to the cylinder was missing one of the bolts and was sucking way too much air and half of the gasket was gone. This was on a tecumseh 16 hp. i had to remove the shroud to see the problem, what led me to it was the carb was loose when I wiggled it so I dug deeper to find the problem. I would suggest going over this machine top to bottom and front to back, older machines just get loose and wear out. I redid all the wiring in mine just to make sure, made sure all the grounds were positive and all connections were tight.

I don't know what type of engine is in your Argo, but I know that los of power when hot is a symptom of the coil going bad in farm tractors.

The engine is a 17 hp Kohler. Is there any way of checking the coil before I buy a new one?
