Hi, Just got my first amphicat and not sure about the gas/oil mix. I was told 20:1. It has a JLO Rockwell 295. If this is the correct mix, how do I mix that? I know with 2 cycle oil, but the only mixes showing close on the bottles are 16:1 and 25:1. Thanks. |

one us gallon equals to 128 ounce. a 20:1 ratio means 20 parts of gasoline per each part of oil 128 /20.......6.4 ounces of oil per each gallon of gasoline |

Lynne, With today's synthetic/petroleum blend oils, you can safely run a 45 to 50:1 ratio. I run about 50:1 in my JLO 295, and it's virtually smokeless, and is well protected at all running temperatures. I use a brand called "Golden Spectro". Good luck! ~mike |

Hi Mike, Do you also use the 2 cycle oil? Where do you get the Golden Spectro? Thanks for the input. Lynne |

Just throwing my $.02. I talked with a guy who flies ultralight aircraft and the guys he flies with all use Pennzoil Marine synthetic at 40:1 which I think is 1 32oz bottle to 5 gallons. If he flies with this mix and his life pretty much depends on it, then I think its a safe bet for my 6x6. |

Lynne, Yes, the Golden Spectro is a 2-cycle pre-mix. You can find a list of distributors here: Spectro Oils but I get it at any local snowmobile/ motorcycle shop. On the back of the bottle, they have a list of suggested mixture ratios from a "normal" mix to extreme/harsh. The ratios vary between 35 and 50:1 I think. Lance's suggestion of 40:1 for the ultralight is dead on. Engines used in a 6x6 application might take a bit of a different mixture depending on the engine, it's operating temperature, and for how long you see extended high RPM usage. Ultralight engines spend most of their time above 4500 RPM, but your 6x6 will likely average around 2500 to 3000 as you're putting around, turning, going over stuff, etc. The best advice may be to start conservatively around 40:1 to see how the plugs react. You can always move to a different ratio after that if it suits you... good luck! ~m |
