I also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. After I had put about 300 hrs on my 25 horse power kolar engine I started haveing problems with my engine missing. I had noticed it when it started missing that my oil would be reading about one and a half quarts over full. I would change my oil and it would run fine until I would run another tank of fuel through it and then it would start fouling out and then I would notice my oil over full again. An argo teck contacted my dealor and said that my machine was probably running to cold and not cooking off the excess fuel if that makes any sense. They told me to restrict the airflow to the radiator and get my temperature up to about 225 and see if that didn't help. I ran it like that and it did help to the point that I could run about three tanks of fuel through it before it would be overfull again. Argo decided they would just replace my engine.
Has anyone else had this problem? Even with all the problems I have had I still like my machine but I wish I didn't have to work on it so much. Is this what you have to do if you are going to own one of these toys? The dealorship that I purchased my argo from would like for me to become a dealor for him in my area. I would like to become one but I don't know if I should if they have so many problems. He keeps telling me that I am the only one he has ever sold a machine to that had so many problems. Do you think that is right? Did I just get a lemon? Do you think that maybe the area that I live is just to hard on them? I do run them around at times above 10,000 feet.

I've never had any problems like that and I run my 2001 Bigfoot hard and go to crazy places to ride.

Richard,

When your oil is reading over-full, what is it that is in the oil? Is it fuel, or water/ antifreeze. Water or antifreeze in the oil will cause it to become milky-white and foam quite a bit. Fuel in the oil will thin it out considerably, and the oil will have a very noticeable gas smell. Determining what is in the oil will be the first step to finding the fix. Running too cold and "not burning off the excess fuel" doesn't sound like a good explanation to me. There should not be "excess" fuel at any point during operation, unless your choke is stuck on. If the fuel is then getting into your oil, that's a sign of a bigger problem, and with only 300 hours, it's unikley it's related to normal wear and tear. I'm not very familiar with the Kohler twins, but it seems that the biggest culprit for gas in the oil (if that's what it is) would be gas getting past the compression rings. Again, I don't know why this would be with only 300 hrs.

Are you loosing antifreeze in the radiator? If so, it would be a good time to check the headgaskets to see if the water jackets are leaking into the combustion chamber. This would certainly cause a bit of a mis-fire, as antifreeze burns considerably more poorly than gasoline... . Check the oil carefully, and take a note on the coolant level in the rad. If you're only loosing 1/2 quart, it may be difficult to notice.

good luck!
~mike

Mike,
I am getting fuel in my crank case, definitly not antifreeze. Like I said, it only takes going through one tank of fuel before the crank case is overfull and that is when it will start fouling my machine. Someone told me that after the crankcase gets so full it will start foaming and that will cause it to start fouling. I don't know, Argo has sent me a new carburator and that didn't help. They also thought that the diaphram on the fuel pump may be leaking into the case so we replaced it and that didn't help. I also tried bypassing the fuel pump and used a low presure elect. fuel pump and and didn't help either. Everyone I have talked to is at a lose on what my problem is but I feel like you that it must be getting past my rings for some reason!
Thanks Zig

Bad ring sealing can cause this from prolonged idleing but being new it sounds defective that you had a cracked cast iron bore liner
