I am intrigued by dual wheels on 6x6 vehicles, such as what Richard Clark shows: [url]http://members.aye.net/%7Erclark/details_parts/dualwheels.html[/url]
I assume that the benefit is better floatation and traction. Is this hard on the bearings or the driveline? |

I would guess the biggest problem would be the loss in power from the extra tread. |

I think dual wheels would work well with 21" tires on the outside of your 22". They are so close to the same size that they would still provide excellent floatation and traction, yet not so much stress on hard terrain. Six new k-rims and Rawhide tires would be only about 1/4 the cost of tracks. Then you could even use only the 21" tires on your vehicle when you want better water speed instead of mud traction. Or, how about the Argo 24" tire with your 22" Rawhide on the outside? Then you'd have more ground clearance and a great ride with faster water speed. |

Will that 24" argo tire fit on my Max II without clearance problems? |

I'd like to know too, or rather a friend with a max II who is about ready to buy tires. It'll be a close fit. Brandon's probably out playing in the frozen wasteland this weekend(ice storm)even though he doesn't like the cold. |

I think I'd pop outer ones off beads everywhere i go i have tite areas to deal with. Roger I didn't get as much of the ice storm as 50 miles north of me. But where Branon lives got a bunch. |

You're right Roger, it is a frozen wasteland out there. Not really enough ice to make riding extra fun. I sold my Conquest last Monday also, so my enclosed cab snow machine is gone. The guy did trade in an older Max IV for it so at least I have something to ride. It is one of Richard Clarks's vehicles that he reconditioned a while back.
I put a Frontier tire on a Max II once and clearance was good. More tire to tire clearance than on an Argo 8x8. Seems to fit just fine. The tire is a bit narrower (one inch) but I think the extra height, tread pattern, and smooth ride is worth that little inch. Argo also has their 8" and 9" rims figured out now so they don't pop the bead all the time. |

I would think that dual setup would be better on the rear axle. I know when I get my Argo wound up, it rides about level, and I'm pushing some mad water from the back of the machine. WOT does take all the engine has to give in the water. I have found I travel much faster at WOT or close to there. I'm running a 2 stroke Rotax 640 in a 6x6 though. |

On October 17, 2005, ODG released a product improvement bulletin for the Centaur, Avenger, and Bigfoot rims (9"). They point out the fact that the edge of the rim is rolled further to prevent damage to the tire while running low pressure over rocks and rough terrain for a smoother ride. That is their way of saying they have fixed the horrible bead popping problem they've had for years, without actually admitting it. They have a before and after picture of the rim and the new bead is very obvious. It now looks and performs like the Max's k-rim. Argo's 8" rim has never given many problems but the bead on that one is also very good. |

Sounds like the idea was to help with rim pinch flats the rawhide III's are so bad about.
Brandon, did you put the argo tire on the front of a max II and it had a little tub clearance on top? |

Roger, the update does include the rolled edge which is a nice touch. The real change is in the bead and I noticed it on the very first '06 Bigfoot I had to sell. The bead is easy to see just like on the k-rim. A before and after pic is posted below, take a close look at where the bead area on the outside pushes farther into the rim. Yes I did put a Frontier tire on the front of a Max II. Clearance was good 'n plenty.

Argo has a few rims listed for the 9" size. The charcoal color (standard on the vehicles) lists for $83.35. Strangely enough, they also have red, tundra (green), and yellow rims listed for $64.38. I have never seen those color rims and I'll ask my distributor for details. Yellow rims on a yellow Avenger would be hot!
The 8" rims list as charcoal color only for $44. |
