Hi folks, I recently bought a 2ndhand Max II with only ~10hrs on it, made in 2000 and sold new in 2005. I put a good hour on it the day I got it, and took a couple other brief rides in the week or so after that, all with no problems. Today I went out to put on another solid hour. Everything went great, and I was on my way back to park it, when a little hill tempted me. It was only about 15' of slope and 8' high, so a little steep but not too long. I ran at it 4-5x at different angles and speeds, and each time failed right before the peak. I didn't hold it there and keep throttling, I just backed off and tried again. After 4-5, I gave up and accepted that she simply couldn't do it for whatever reason. I rode another 15min after that, and the throttle got less and less responsive in that time. When it would gun, it was not consistent and would flutter and bog. Once it even stalled outright, but it fired right up again, and I limped it back to the barn. What did I do wrong? Where should I start with the diagnostics? thanks

I would start with the fuel system. Look for varnish or sediment or water in the tank, filter and carb.

Funny you say that, another thing I shoulda mentioned is I added some Stabil today before I started running. It probably has nothing to do with it, as she ran great for 45 min. until the hill climb, but maybe connected.

Alot of times foreign material gets knocked loose and clogs the filter or main orifice at the bottom of te float bowl. A grain of sand is big enough to clog it.
