It can happen. After checking the tension, I suggest that you add a little belt dressing. It can really help |

Is it getting wet? They will slip if there is some water splashing up on the belt or if it getting some rain on it. If it is not wet how old is it? Are the clutches lubed with silicone spray regularly, and the belt with some dressing? |

During the first 30-35 hours how did it run? Did it slip then, or did it just suddenly start doing this? Then you used it for another 10 hours and it was never correct and is still not working correctly, am I understanding you correctly on this? Since it is a 2006 it should still be under warranty, have you called the factory and explained the problem to them? |

The transmission does not slip due to spring tension. The transmission will slip if you do not push forward on the laterals . Are you sure your belt is slipping or are you relying on the springs to engage the transmission bands ? |

I would want two new clutches and a new belt put on. It is hard to diagnose the problem on line ( for us on the discussion board) but since it is under warranty the problem should be corrected at the dealer or factory level. The best thing I would do is just replace the clutches and belt. Where do you live? |

liflod has a very good point, you are pushing forward on the control sticks right? If you don't that will slip the transmission, and it is supposed to do that. I assume you know that and have been driving it that way. Another thing I could think of is the center from the crank to the transmission input shaft is off a little. And is it fully engaged into forward? The Max IV linkage is a little convoluted and sometimes it is difficult to get into gear fully. Does the dealer drive it when you drop it off? |

Tom, I have a 3 year old Max IV with a 25 horse engine. I go to many rides with other machines here in Canada and in New York and Ohio etc. I can hear the desperation in your messages and would like to help. Beleive me when you get your problem fixed a Max IV with 23 horsepower will not have trouble climbing any hill because of a slipping clutch. It sounds too simple but try Shoving those sticks foreward and holding them there while you're climbing, that may be the trouble as Liflod says. I rolled mine over a couple of weeks ago when I was trying to push a red cedar tree over, the max climbed up it and rolled over. Nobody hurt ,lots of witnesses, just embarrassing. There is a solution, good luck. W. Philip Cox |

Tom, Please reread my last private email to you on this subject and let me/us know what the results are. I still think a trip to the factory would be well worth your while. |

Well I haver made another appointment with a dealer near me he thinks it could be the secondary clutch I do have a small amount of lateral movement on the clutch side of the tranny that I told him about. When I go up hills I do push forward on the sticks just in case but it is the belt I have ran it with someone in back to watch just what is going on right now there is no way my max would climb a tree. |

Well took it back to the dealer and he took one look at it and said my belt was too loose for one thing and my secondary clutch spring was too weak just sitting without it running my belt was not riding on top of the converter like it should he also said they offer different size springs for different power ranges so we will see what happens. |

Tom it sounds like the trans clutch was not assembled correctly by that manufacturer. The spring is probably either broken or not wound to the right tension. RI might just exchange your clutch with a new one. Use the factory spring and belt. |

Does anyone have problems with the belt due to cold weather? I've had a couple of machines come in this week with the owner complaining of poor performance and lack of pulling power and ability to get up to speed. In both cases there is an original belt on a machine that is 4 or 5 years old. They said they didn't have a problem in the summer but since it has gotten cold they have lost power. I did check the belts an they are close to .040 thinner than a new belt. Another interesting thing is both machines had the idle rpm too fast and they both had zero gauge pressure in the tires. |

Interesting Jerry but I,m on my second belt and it squeals if it gets wet but cold weather has not had any effect that I've noticed. When I had my idle set too fast on my then new machine I had unwanted vehicle creep that I thought may have contributed to that belts shorter life. If you learn anything , let us know. W.Philip |
