I have developed an banging noise in my argo . Was out moose hunting with it when the noise started. It does it in high and low and reverse. The argo will move about 10 feet then it will stop sudden . Put it reverse and it will move about 10 feet and it will stop again . Its like something is binding. I think it is the tranny . But I can't get it out of the swamps until it freezes. Any suggestion on what it might be . Hope you can help

Check the chains real close, there is probably something caught in the chain.I saw the same thing happen on a ride,It turned out that the kids were playing with a marble that they found, and dropped it,it landed in the double chain. The machine would bind up going forward and reverse. The marble was ground up but didnt break. Look for bolts , nuts ,rocks, seatbelts that could have fallen into the chains.

Thanks guys for the input. But what would make the banging noise before it packs up and stops . I am going out in the morning to see if I can get to it and I will check for what you fellas have suggested. thanks again.

Ernie, If your idler chains are loose enough it will jump the chain on the sprocket,It will make a bang noise like you have said. When you find the obstruction you will definitely need to tighten the idler chains also. Eddie

Thanks Eddie for the reply. Well we towed the argo home today. It did not bind or bang at all, but we pulled it home in neutral . The battery was dead so we could not start it. I will try it tomorrow to see if it will bang or lock up when it is put into gear. Thanks again Ernie

Check your springs on the tensioners. This has happened to me twice. I threw a spring that was too stretched and it got caught up in the chain and sprocket and make very loud popping/banging sounds. Both times it happened it was the chains under the seat on an 8x8.
