While out ridding this weekend I knocked one of my front tires off the out side bead. The inside bead was still on. I know I didn't have with me what I needed to fix it while on the trail this time, but I want to be ready for next time. Are there some tricks I should know and what all will I need to do it? Thanks
Chuck

Lighter fluid and a lighter will reseat a bead, but can also give you an eyebrow trim if you are not careful.

I carry a small CO2 tire inflator and a plug kit with me on the trail as well.

Chuck I have used either to seat beads before and it works great. However on an atv like we have be sure to take a lug wrench with you if you try this because if it starts the bearing grease on fire you will melt the body of the machine. What you do is take your belt(pants belt) and put it around the tire as tight as you can take the either and spray it inside the tire and wheel(you don't need alot). Then throw a match and wolla. If you don't have a match then spray a trail of either so your far enough away.

KA_BOOM!
better to drive up on a log or something to get afected tire off the ground, then kick it a few times wich sets it up for inflation, i use a high volume bycicle pump from wallmart that i keep onboard to re bead my tires, realy it has worked dozens of times, i did this to philip cox's maxIV after a slight rollover crash on very steep slope at olean at last year's jamboree.
(phillip was a pasenger in this one)

wooden match and starter fuild(ether)*sp

take off the tire spray the fuild around the tire once and throw a match at it. boom, bead seated. now pressure down and your set.

works great on my 35" swampers, oh the tire may jump off the gound as well

IF the air trys to leak out of one side, we use a ratchet tie down strap to go all the way around the try then start ratcheting it down to itself. This puts even pressure all the way around the tire. Its a lot easier then trying to bear hug the tire and put air in it at the same time

We have used small portable air compressors on the trail. Just he cheap cigarette lighter type. It takes a while and when you hear the pop, your done. I have had luck with a foot type pump to initially get some air into the tire since the small electric pumps do not put enough air into the tire if the bead is leaking. Just make sure to get all the mud and dirt off the bead before seating it. I actually glued my tires on to the rim so I will hopefully not loose more beads on the next ride. If it works, I'll let you all know.mud 'n tire

I can testify that david,s hi-volume pump worked as he said at Olean. I not so sure that he needed to bring that up again!!!!!!but since he did, he didn,t mention that it nearly exhausted Liflod who got stuck with the job of pumping the beast! Also for you lighter, match ,ether, hair spray, lighter fluid," go boom crowd". We know it works sometimes,But ask Mr.Berger to re-tell his FLYING TIRE story. Bud Dunn,I have not seen a co2 tire inflator,Where do I get one? W.Philip Cox

Will the small CO2 cartridges inflate the tires completely?
I see some larger CO2 tanks used for paint ball guns that would be nice to use as a refillable air tank with enough air to seat a bead and inflate a few tires. I have never seen a tire adapter hose for them.

I use a scuba regulator with a low pressure inflator air chuck adapter. I have the regulator mounted on a 13 cubic pony cylinder. I fill the cylinder to 3000psi and it last for a couple of months doing top offs to desired pressure. Not as cheap as a hand pump but they can be found on ebay cheaply. It is just something I had laying around so I decided to use it.

The CO2 cartridge type inflators will normally state what size of tire they will fill to a certain pressure. They are often carried by guys on 4 wheelers that do a lot of trail riding.
