Can anyone advise the bore size for a JLO 297? I bought new rings for my old piston and discovered that they are too thick to fit into the grooves. I removed the old rings and noticed that they have a "big" end gap on both, although the piston does not flop around with wear. I guess I need to source new piston and rings that fit each other and bore out the cylinder. Any advice or information would be appreciated. Steve |

I'm beginning to think my post did not post as I put it up the same evening the site was down for maintenance. Can someone answer questions about JLOs and 297 pistons please. I know the answer is out there somewhere. thanks |

Hey, Steve; I did see your first post and meant to answer when I dug my manuals out, but then forgot- Sorry about that. The stock bore on a 297 is 75mm, or 2.953". I didn't find the spec for ring end gap, but if I remember correctly, it's around .040". There was at least a couple different ring thicknesses in JLO OEM pistons, and who knows how many for aftermarket stuff. Right now on ebay there's posts for different 297 rings, so you may be in luck as far as the right rings go. Good Luck Don |

Thanks Don I have searched for days for pistons and rings for a L-297. No one seems to have any for sale. I have an idea that a l-295 overbore could be fitted to the 297 block if the stroke is the same on 295 as on the 297. Hopefully someone will post some additional information or advise where to purchase. Thanks |

Is it a twin or a single? I have some parts for a 2f-295-1 twin. I also have some parts for an L-230. |

Hello guest: the jlo 297 is a single cylinder. It has 6 bolt cylinder heads. I would like to overbore the cylinder, but jlo 297 pistons and rings are getting hard to find. I wonder whether a l-295 block would fit my crankcase so that I could use 295 parts, which seem to be more numerous. My 297 has a 75mm bore. Thanks Steve |

Liflod: I have not checked that. I believe the 600 is a double of one of the single JLOs. |

Liflod - According to my manual, the jlo 600 has a stroke that is unique to the jlo single cylinder engines. Steve |
