Hi Folks, A friend just gave me a Max Buffalo Truck with about 180hrs on it. It has a plow/winch and 26" tires. I have never though of having one of these but could not pass up the deal. The Max looks well taken care of. He used it to haul firewood for his house. I am planning on using this for fun and a bit of plowing. Can the buffalo do what other 6x6's can? Can the bed be changed to add seats for my two young boys? Why is this so heavy, and can I/should I lighten it up? Any suggestions comments about this vehicle? I wonder if anyone else out there has one used for fun and rec only? Thanks for the help. Marty |

What kind of deal did you have to make to get it for free? They do weigh more than a quad, and have more rolling resistance than a quad ( more tires, chains, etc.) so they are a lot harder to push by hand. There might be a few small things you could remove to lighten it up a bit but it probably wouldn't be of any significant amount that you would notice any performance gains. The body's themselves don't weigh that much they are made of (HDPE) High Density Poly Ethylene, same stuff drop in bed liners are made out of. And I wouldn't suggest trying to lighten up the frame or anything inside the body as this would probably just compromise the strength of the frame & drive components. Most people you find on the board are trying to find ways to improve their AATV's and are adding things to strengthen them up as the manufacturers sometimes don't address some of the problems with failures people are finding in their machines for quite a while after their knowledge of it and very rarely have I ever heard of a call back. |

MARTY,re: " can the bed be changed to add seats for my two boys" YES and it's called a Max IV. It is available with the same engine as the one you have or even larger. Somewhere there are guys wondering how to adapt their Max IVs to carry stuff like firewood. Instead of people causing irrepairable damage to machines that have only 180 hours on them I would recommend that you contact a Max dealer or the factory about a trade. I am not sure about your concern re: their weight but if you want to have over 2 hours of fun and see many of these vehicles in EXTREME action contact John Schwab whose profile is on this site and ask him to send you a video. Haspin acres Nov, 2005 is the newest, equal to the best and costs less than $20 in the U.S.A.(I,m a Canadian and John mails them here for$20 US.) GOOD LUCK and happy riding W, Philip Cox |
