I took my engine out to service the trans. I even took pictures of the electrical wiring so I wouldn't screw up. But somehow I did, because it won't charge the battery now. Pull starts fine, and runs fine. I can also jump start it no problem, but it just won't charge while running. Any ideas and what wiring would be connected wrong. |

you may have already done this, but if you havent, be sure to check the battery to make sure it is not the problem. put the battery on a charger and give it a good charge, let it sit for a while then see if it will start the engine. if it does then you know the battery is still good and you need to take a closer look at the way you wired things back together.
if the battery is good, does you 6x6 have a volt meter on the dash? if so does it show a charge when at high rpm? if it doesnt then the rectifier-regulator or the stator could be faulty.
are all connections tight?
any corrosion on the connections?
miss a ground connection somewhere? there are several ground connections, from what i remember there is a ground strap from battery to frame, ground wire on engine pedistal, ground on engine case, just to name a few.
is the quick connection between the motor and wiring harness pushed together all the way?
without looking at it thats about all i can think of. |

Check the main fuse as well. The main fuse in the harness (either located back by the engine or up under the dash on the left side of the body. |

Thanks, good suggestions. The AMP meter doesn't read anything when running. Should it show something, even if the battery is dead? Or could that be the indication that the charging isn't working.
If the fuse was blown, would it still be able to start? It will jump start just fine. |

Yes, Robert, the ammeter should indicate a charge even if the battery is dead (no movement whatsoever, usually means a blown fuse). The ammeter should indicate a charge right after starting (until the battery is at full charge) and a discharge whenever power is be taken out of the battery such as when the lights are on and engine isn't revved up enough to offset the draw. Used to be an inline fuse, but I think it is under the dash now. The fuse only affects charging the battery - it will start and the lights should work when the engine is running regardless of the fuse.
It could be something else, but I would check the fuse first. |

THanks, after checking the fuses, and they were good, I bought a new battery, and it charges fine, so thanks for your advice! |
