I recently purchased a 73 attex 295 wild wolf. when I fire it up it is running extremely rich, It will fill the garage up with smoke after a few seconds of running. I have tried turning the two screws on the side but it wont stay running long enought to use up all the fuel in the crankcase at idle. I can drive it around but I have to give alot of throttle and it does not have much power. Also alot of unused fuel come out the exaust. Does anybody know how too adjust the carb on one of these. I would like to get it close before I foul out another plug. Thanks |

Sounds like the crank case is full of fuel. There are drain plugs at the bottom to drain the case. Next time you get it fired up, keep the throttle wide open and try to get all the fuel burned out of it. |

It is very similar, my idle screw and air screw are on the otherside and my choke is opperated off a cable. "Liflod" thanks for the tip on draining the crank case it fires right up and seams to run right. I didn't have time to take it out to see how it goes. I see on this diagram #14 is a Air adjustment screw. Does this work the same as a normal mixture screw: out = rich and in= lean? Jerry, thanks for the picture. does anybody have any advice on setting these up. And is there a place I can get rebuild kit, it should run better with new seals. |

You are welcome. I hope they have your rebuild kits and it gets you running. Ebay also has a ton of mikuni carbs on there. |

Thanks for all the information. It runs alot better. It is still too rich (my neibors must hate me by now). I wonder if I didn't mix the fuel right. I thought I did 20:1 but maybe not. I only mixed up a gallon. I will try a full tank this time and see if that helps. Also the engine vibrates alot. It seems to be before the Isolators between the motor mount plate and the motor. I tightned down the engine but I didn't want to put alot of torque on it since it looked like it is threading into aluminum. Do these bolts have to be extreamly tight or is there a different problem. |

Try replacing both spark plugs with new ones even though you probably have done that a few times. I use synthetic oil at 40:1 with alot less smoke. Does the engine really rev when you hold the throttle wide open or does it run rough even at high rpm? next time you have it running run the thing as fast as you can to get things cleaned out and heated up. Maybe you are still burning old fuel or left over crankcase fuel. |

they dont make gasoline like they used too, and for that matter they dont make 2 - stroke oli like they used to ether! the old days higher octane leaded fuel dosent compair to todays newly reformulated substatute crapp, todays 2-stroke oil is soo much better though, so yesterdays 20/1 compairs to 50/1 today with quality 2-strok oil and pump gas, i use 50/1 in fall threw spring, and 45/1 dureing summer. you might try this mix info out to see if smoke is more exeptible to you. but your naybors arnt mad at you for killing moskeetows, (west nile prevention) |

The Motor smooths out at higher rpms but it does not rap out on the top end like it should when you are driving, like it is really rich. I will try less oil may be that is the problem. Right now it looks like a something that should be on James Bond. I am going to rebuild the carb tonight and try it again. It does seam to respond to adjustment now but it has a long lag after you make a change. Maybe there is a bunch of crap in the bottom of the crank case that is trapping fuel would it hurt anything to spray carb cleaner down the intake when I have the carb off or do you think it would wash the oil out of the bearings. Thanks again |

The fuel mixed @ 50:1 did the trick. thanks to all now it is faster than I want it to be. Runs out good at the top end, Idles, and has that two stroke sound. |

good but make shur you use a quality ashless 2-stroke oil, and not 30 or 40wt motor oil as in derr olden days! 45 or 50/1 is with good quality ashless 2-stroke oil. HAPPY MOTORIN <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< :-) |
