Hello all, Been lurking for awhile and finally bought a 97 Max IV 26" tires 18hp vanguard. So far so good. The machine is great although I will be replacing chains soon and doing a tranny fluid change and adjusting the t-20(I have about 11 inches of play in sticks). My first question is what is the best method for hauling deer out of the wood with my Max besides throwing it in the backseat LOL. I do not have a rack on the back and could just drag it out I guess but looking for ideas (why reinvent the wheel). Thanks, Jon |

A little garden/yard trailer? Depends on how far in your deer will be and the terrain I suppose |

drag or carry in a piece of 3/4 inch plywood, not very big but enough for a deet and attach a heavy rope or cable on the left and loop it to the right and hook your winch cable to it and pull. |

Hauling out Deer. First I would highly recommend you field dress the deer. This is VERY important in hotter climates. Second, do not ever haul out game in such a manner that some idiot can possibly thing it is NOT dead as they may shoot at it. Cover up the head/antlers, keep it in as UNNATURAL position as possible, and MAKE NOISE. I would not drag it as that damages the hide and possibly the meat. An 8 wheel drive Argo has more than enough room in the "back seat" to carry the game out with some finese.... Lastly, make sure you got the proper tags... Remember, game wardens can not only confiscate your deer, they can take your rifle AND Argo. |

I agree that dragging damages hide and meat. My land is pure South Jersey swamp witch is brutal on the hide and meat when pulling over dead logs, cedar stumps, through swamp water ..etc. We gut after getting out of the gook. I built a small bed for deer and wood out of the oak pallet my MaxII was strapped on. |

Do you have a hitch on your max 4 ? I think they come standard with them. I think some people remeove the type thats on the outside and replace with a receiver type hitch that will bolt back up to the same holes then you can put all kinds of different racks etc. on the back. |
