Hello, I just bought a used 1999 ARGO Conquest. I was wondering if the fan under the hood is supposed to operate all the time while the engine is running. It seems like an electrical fan. Mine runs as soon as I start the engine. Also, when I am operating the argo there seems to be a little bit of banging from the chains. I assume this means I need to adjust the chain. The unit has 62 hours on it. It is really cool. Thanks for looking. Phil |

I have never owned a newer Argo like yours, but both my older ones "slapped" the chains on the bottom of the cowel (dashboard) AND the edge of the floorboards. No biggie! I'm not sure about the fan, but here's a link to all Argo's "Manuals" page: http://odg.orc.ca:3000/manuals.php or just go right to the Operators Manual here (.pdf doc): http://odg.orc.ca:3000/pdfDocs/vehicle_Parts&Op/Argo/Argo%20Operators%20Manual/C urrent%20Argo%20Operators%20Manual/ArgoOp08-05.pdf |

As skip said, its just the brake fan thats running, it draws in cooler outside air as the ARGO brakes are used for steering so they heat up quickly and overtime that reduces your brake life so the fan just keps things cooler. the chains shouldn't need to be adjusted yet at only 62 hours but you may check the tensioners and make sure they are all working properly, their is usually some play in them especially when turning or hard constant braking (in tight trails or something) or if you jerk the brake too hard sometimes it slaps in the back on the floorboard. Some noise is very common but if things just don't feel right, something may be wrong. |

Thanks. It may be just normal stuff I am hearing. I am still not an accomplished argo pilot so I think some of the noise is pilot error. I haven't had a chance to get under the covers. I will have to have a look at it soon. Thanks for the helpful posts. Phil |
