Terra Tiger won't start or try to start. Ran once to back garage. Rebuilt Carb, 180 LBS compression. Plug is flooded on starting attempts. Gas blow back out induction side of Carb. Good blue/white spark. Idle needle valve set @ one turn with fast needle valve set @ one and one half turns as suggested in manual. Does this engine have reed valves? Carb is mount on composite spacer. There is no mention of this motor being equipped with reeds in manual. Need all the help I can get Duck Season is upon me and I am ready to admitted I'm out of my league on this one!!!!!!!!

Name change I fat finger the keys. The motor designation on my first post is a JLO L295L with the Carb being a HR-68A. Sorry for the wrong info.

Does this carb have a return hose to the tank? If so, I would disconnect it at the carb (top) and attach a short piece in its place (running to a pail) and see if gas is passing through (when you turn the motor over). If the nossel is clogged, the fuel pump may be forcing excessive fuel past the metering needle causing a flooding condition. Also, this needle has been reported by others as "sticky", so you may need to pull the "bottom layers" off and check.

No return hose to tank. Where can I find a Mikuni carb? Are they available from Richard's Relics and what model? Is there only one that will fit the JLO motor?

I got mine from a snowmobile/atv salvage yard. You found a rubber flange adapter type deal that fitted the Sachs, and a Mikuni carb to go with it. The type with the screw on cap on the top where the throttle cable goes through.

Carbs are pretty much universal and just need to find the right rubber carb. adapter. If you need to you can always change the jets in them.

Well, I suppose I shouldn't say they're universal.

But if you can get it to bolt up to the motor, then you're good. Then they just work. If you need to you can always change the jets in them.

Since there's tons of different rubber adapters (kinda like a Fernco; we're plumbers) to get the round carb to bolt to the motor flange.

I think it's a lot better than messing with an old Walbro or something. Mikunis (or Keihins, your preference) are modern, have a much better design due to modern technology, and you can easily get parts for them from like a bike or snowmobile shop.

You can buy new mikuni carbs and kits for old carbs at www.denniskirk.com They also sell the rubber intake flanges in any configuration you could ever need.
